Perspective & Advice for Those Facing Insurmountable Odds

Throughout our journey with Voyage, the one thing we have learned over and over is that hidden within every challenge is a blessing or opportunity. It’s up to us to determine whether a challenge we face will be a step back or the catalyst for a step forward.

We had the honor of connecting with some of the city’s brightest female leaders and role models and we asked them our question of the month: What is the best advice you have for someone who feels like they are facing insurmountable odds.

Below, you’ll find their advice and links and other info so you can learn more about them, their work and how to connect with them. We’ll be interviewing many of these amazing women in the coming weeks, stay tuned.

Rosemary de’ Medici – Realtor

We have all been through times in our lives when things seem all but hopeless and that is okay. It is a part of life.  The best thing to do is feel it, be a part of it and grieve, whatever that means to you.  Everyone is different but acknowledging the struggle and facing it is so important. BUT…when the time is right, think back to the last time you felt this way (I promise for most of us, there has been a time before when we felt defeated) and ask yourself, “Was I able to get through that suffering?”  And focus on the other side. Focus on how you will feel when you’ve fought, conquered, and finally came out the other side with more strength, knowledge and power!

Everything starts with the mind if you start to tell your self that you can and truly believe it , you will then start to feel it , and once you feel it it will then become true.

The best advice I would have for someone facing a challenge that they feel is insurmountable is that NOTHING is too great to overcome! Don’t allow fear, obstacles, or peoples perception of you to alter your drive and outlook on life. Don’t stress about the things you cannot change! Keep moving forward and continue to create your OWN destiny.

Life it’s a journey full of struggles, some bigger than others, but one day you’ll look back and think “wow I can’t believe how far I’ve come.” Focus on yourself, your goals and never for any reason lose sight of where you want to be.

If a challenge seems unsurmountable to you, it’s probably time to change your mindset. If you have the mindset of “I can’t do it, this is impossible”, then you will never achieve your goal. Start putting confidence in yourself & do little steps each day toward that goal that seems “unsurmountable”. Before you know it, you are way closer to that goal than you ever were before.

First of all you have to accept that life is like a labyrinth, where you get lost and you find yourself, where you think you have control over your life. The reality is that nobody is in control of what may happen tomorrow my advice is live one day at a time and enjoy the ride , that no challenge or happiness is forever .

The best advice that I could give to someone that is facing a challenge they feel is insurmountable is to STAY CONSISTENT! Consistency is so important, especially if the challenge is in your heart…. Like a dream or passion. All challenges or obstacles may get tough, but you have to remain calm and put your best foot forward. Sometimes we may want something so bad but fail to realize, things don’t happen overnight. We have to continue to work hard everyday and soon our hard work will pay off. So don’t get discouraged! You got this and remember anything is possible as long as you keeping trying!

Abría Dudley

First, you have to understand that without rain there wouldn’t be any flowers. In other words, you have to go through the tough times in order to appreciate the good. Second, remember your power, who you are & what you bring to the table. You may feel down sometimes but that’s just apart of life we all have to remember that no matter the outcome there was a lesson behind it & you will grow.. like a flower .. so bloom where you are planted , no matter what, make the best of every situation. A rose that bloomed through concrete is still a beautiful rose (:

The best way to tackle a challenge that seems insurmountable, to me, has been to break it down into baby steps. Write it all down on how you can get over this challenge. Even then, sometimes those steps need baby steps! Try and simplify it to a day by day task that you can actually do so that you don’t get overwhelmed. As those days and steps add up, you’d be surprised how quickly you can get over any mountain!

My tried and true advice for any seemingly insurmountable challenge is to immediately turn your focus on what can be controlled in the moment. Write down the desired outcome, then make a plan to get there. If it’s out of your control, then let it go. Keep pushing forward and never lose sight, but make sure your expectations are realistic. If you catch yourself “future tripping” bring yourself back into the present and deal with each obstacle one by one. When all else fails, think back on the last seemingly insurmountable challenge you overcame and remember that everything will be ok.

My advice would be to NEVER give up! God is on your side! He’s your protector and your peace. You need him for everything! Keep God in your life… he would guide you through. Also, don’t think everything is going to be handed to you… that’s a fairytale. You have to WORK for what you want and stay dedicated to it. Never let NOBODY tell you, you can’t amount to anything! Stay away from negativity and stay strong!

Challanges and obstacles are unavoidable, but when taken on in a positive mindset they mold us into the people we are today.  When presented with a challenge so large I can see no end, I reflect on past challenges or examples of challenges similar to mine. This helps me strategize through it and see what has worked in the past.  As time passes, a positive mind set and a support team that believes in your success is what will help overcome anything in your way.

Try taking it one step at a time. Find the things you can control and make the plans to fix/deal with the situation. Also having a good support system/group does wonders.

Facing what feels like an insurmountable challenge is something we’ve all come across once or twice or maybe even a numerous amount of times. In my experience I’ve found turning to those close to me, first and foremost my family and then my friends, that I can get through anything. For those who feel like they have neither friends or family then finding strength within themselves to face their challenge may be their only option, and sometimes makes them stronger than those who do have help from others.

Think about all the challenges you have overcome so far, how many times you thought you weren’t capable and you were wrong. We tend to forget our victories and how strong we are. I’m sure you’ve had struggles in your life and you are here now to beat one more.

The best advice I have for someone who is facing  a challenge they feel is insurmountable would be to hustle for whatever you like because if you don’t do it someone else will beat you to it. Be REAL with yourself at ALL times, especially if your making excuses because there’s always someone else doing worst then you. Why put off what you can do today for tomorrow? See….BE REAL with yourself.

If something seems impossible or insermountable, just start. Start making lists. Start prepping. Start talking about your goals. Just start somewhere. You’ll be happy you did! And once you’re on your journey, make sure you give yourself credit with the little milestones; celebrate the amazing work you’ve done at that exact moment and how far you’ve come from just starting this project towards your goal! You’re a rockstar and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

My advice is to remember that whatever you are facing now is temporary no pain will last forever. Just keep going and do your best it will make you a stronger person. Do not be afraid be patient, have faith God will take care of everything soon. Love yourself.
