Today we’re excited to introduce you to Jennifer Helms & Lisa Solomon. Jennifer and Lisa are cofounders or Cleerlife and toxic-free living experts and educators and are also content partners. Content partners help Voyage in so many ways from spreading the word about the work that we do, sponsoring our mission and collaborating with us on content like this. Check out our conversation with Jennifer and Lisa below.

Jennifer and Lisa, we are so exciting to be chatting again and think there is so much we and our audience can learn for you about living in a safe, healthier way. For folks who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please start by just briefly introducing yourselves?
We are Jennifer and Lisa and we created Cleerlife in 2016 to help people detox their homes from toxic chemicals. We left our careers of 20+ years to start this company because we were passionate about helping others create safer, healthier homes and businesses. Most people WANT to make better choices but it’s so overwhelming, that most give up. We love working with our amazing clients to help them learn how to remove the toxic chemicals that are lurking in their homes and workplaces, with zero judgement from us. With our services, we give personalized recommendations for safe swaps that actually work! We also have a studio in Preston Hollow and an e-commerce site where you can shop our curated selection of clean products. And we are thrilled to have recently launched our own line of hand-crafted safe products for home + body!

Alright so let’s dive into some questions our audience might have. For example, what kinds of things in my home or business are toxic?

The #1 source of toxins in our homes come from our cleaning products. Mainstream cleaning products such as cleaning sprays, mop liquids, and laundry detergents are filled with chemicals that are known to contribute to disease. The mists and particles from these products are regularly inhaled into our lungs and bloodstream and can cause problems from eye irritation to cancer. In fact, the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine published a study in 2018 finding that regularly using mainstream housecleaning products can be as bad for us as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. That is just one of hundreds of shocking statistics!

Another category of products filled with toxic chemicals is personal care products like shampoo, soaps and makeup. The chemicals in these products soak into our skin and bloodstream and build up over time. The U.S. government has very little oversight when it comes to the ingredients in these products. In fact, whereas the European Union bans 1300 chemicals in cosmetics alone, the U.S. bans only 11. To top it all off, manufacturers are not required to be transparent about the ingredients they use! Part of our mission is to support companies that are working to get new laws in place to change this.

How do I figure out if the products I am using are safe?

This is a tricky question and the burden of figuring this out is on you as the consumer. This question is exactly what inspired us to create Cleerlife. Don’t assume just because something is labeled “green” or has natural imagery that it is safe – companies are “greenwashing” their labels and ads to make their products look safe when they are anything but. You must first read the ingredient list and follow all directions carefully. Choose products with reduced amounts of VOCs, fragrances, irritants and flammable ingredients. Unfortunately, comprehending ingredient lists can be really challenging. So, we recommend using the Environmental Working Group’s “Guide to Healthy Cleaning” which gives safety ratings to more than 2500 cleaning products. The EWG also has an app called EWG’s Healthy Living, which rates personal care products.

We take the guesswork out of this dilemma. In our store and on our website, we partner with the leading companies in green cleaning and personal care products so you do not have to figure this out for yourself. We are committed to selling brands who not only develop safer products using the highest quality ingredients, but who serve the greater good by giving back to the world. We love working with clients all over the country through virtual and in-home appointments where we discuss your product needs to determine the best safe swaps for your home or business.
Are green products really safer or just a gimmick?

Real green products really are safer. Plant-based and non-toxic ingredients do exist and do work. There are some really innovative companies out there today that are combining the power of plants with the latest technologies to create high-end, high-performing products for cleaning and personal care. There is no question that these products expose us to fewer carcinogens and make our homes, workspaces and lives healthier. Our clients see the results quickly too.

I know Cleerlife sells products that are toxin-free. What is your best selling product for the home? For the body?

Our best selling home product is our microfiber cleaning cloth from a Norwegian company called Norwex. High quality microfiber like Norwex’s microfiber is extremely fine and has been proven to remove bacteria using just water – no chemicals. A study by the EPA found that this type of microfiber removes up to 98% of bacteria and 93% of viruses from a surface using only water. Cotton, on the other hand, removes only 30% of bacteria and 23% of viruses. Our clients LOVE these Norwex cloths – called EnviroCloths – and we sell tons of them! And, by using these cloths you save a fortune on paper towels and it’s better for the planet!

Our best selling products for the body are our skin care products. American women put 168 chemicals on their bodies each day – many of which come from skin care products that are often applied twice a day. Right now, our top seller happens to be the leader in clean beauty and innovation – Beautycounter. We are thrilled to be able to partner with them and offer their product lines to our clients. Beautycounter has hired some of the best beauty industry chemists and professionals to develop clean skin care lines that are as luxurious and effective as the high-end beauty brands. Just last year they released a fabulous anti-aging line called Countertime with their own non-toxic version of retinol. Our clients absolutely love it! And, so do we! This is the line we both use every day!
What is your most popular service and what does it include?

Our most popular service is our CleerHome service which includes a full detox of a client’s everyday household cleaning products. We do these appointments virtually and in-person. It is super-easy and takes all the guesswork out of figuring out which cleaning products are safe and actually work. We meet with each client to assess his/her needs and preferences and his/her current cleaning tools. Then we create a customized recommendation list of safe, effective products that meet each family’s needs. Once a client decides to make the swap, we take care of everything – from ordering the products to delivery, to teaching the client or cleaning staff how to use them most effectively. We also handle all reorders of items such as detergents, soaps, etc.

Your website says, “everything is customizable.” What does that mean?

We meet every client where he/she is on his/her journey and this is a no judgment zone! Quite often, this is one of the biggest concerns of our clients. They are terrified of being judged. And, they are usually most afraid that we are going to make them give up their favorite lipstick or lotion. We passionately believe that small changes make huge impacts, so we start with the products you are willing to swap out. We are here to customize and walk your detox journey with you at the pace you are most comfortable. To do this, we work with each client individually and take into consideration his/her lifestyle, budget, family makeup, size of home, etc. We want to be sure that you will use and enjoy the recommendations and products we offer. We also offer individual and group opportunities for training and coaching as you move through your detox journey!

Check out our conversation with Shumaila below.

Shumaila, thank you so much for connecting with us again. For folks who may have missed our initial conversation, would you mind briefly introducing yourself?

Hey there, guys! I’m Shumaila but I go by Shu too! Nice to meet you all! I’m a photographer and content creator. I do a lot of things that naturally come to me and it’s usually hard for people to know me because I’m sometimes not as communicative about my hobbies as I should be but, I’ve been working to communicate them very openly and of course with every hobby comes a damage to the wallet so that’s what I’m doing right now. Working on me, my dreams and also just becoming my own person.

Why’d you choose photography to be your medium of choice when it comes to art?

It seemed like a more real experience. Sometimes you can’t put your mind’s restlessness into words or paper, so it’s best to just visualize it and try to put it into perspective in a more interactive way with your subject. Perhaps a way to connect your art with reality. I find this medium rather intriguing.

What’s the best advice you can give somebody who aspires to pursue their talent?

Just go for it! Like do it! Don’t feel held back because, you think you’re not good enough!

Where did you begin and who motivated you?

I begin in college and my motivation was a really good friend of mine, Agha! He was a MBBS major turned artist and he’s well over perfect since I see his success! Coming from the parental expectations we come from and our anxiety that comes with it, he’s pretty much broken all barriers because, he chose his path not what was instilled upon him. Great minds think alike! He works in Pakistan and is quite successful in what he does and heck he travels the world too and pretty much lives life on the edge just like I like to live mine!

Finally, please let us know how our readers can connect with you and learn more.

Anybody wanting to see what my photography POV is- they can reach out to me on both Instagram accounts @shumailay2 & @shutograph.

Today we’re excited to introduce you to Shajuanda White. Shajuanda is an entrepreneur and an IT Consultant and is also a content partner. Content partners help Voyage in so many ways from spreading the word about the work that we do, sponsoring our mission and collaborating with us on content like this. Check out our conversation with Shajuanda below.

Please briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

It’s time to end the stigma of mental health in the black communities and start addressing our traumas so we can work collectively, productively and fruitfully, contribution to wealth building in our communities. Abu Simbel, LLC event company (Instagram) is a Dallas based business that held a series of events (Post COVID-19) that provided the community with networking opportunities which centered around wealth and health. The events, which showcased panels of community leaders discussing prevalent issues in the community such as healthy eating, mental health, healing traumas and wealth, grew rapidly from 40 to over 400 participants. It blossomed as one of Dallas’s most premier health conscious events which landed rapper, actor and activist, David Banner as its keynote speaker.

What are you doing differently as an entrepreneur?

Amazingly, the events were simply a prelude to a bigger vision which is the wellness resort in Belize www.abu-simbel.com. The events served a real, live interactive survey which would give the participants a taste of what they would experience at the resort coming winter 2021.

Me and my college best friend Al-Nisa Edwards, are building the resort and merging Technology and Mental Wellness. With over thirty years combined experience in IT industries, and leadership for Fortune top 10 companies, private businesses, and government contracts the two of us have decided to collaborate with the industry’s best IT developers and Analysts across the globe for a virtual work from home experience. We want to ensure that health is the key in work life balance for all our collaborations and partnerships, in allowing family time, travel and still achieve excellent work. The primary focus and passion is the multi-million-dollar conglomerate vision for Abu Simbel, LLC which houses an events, Abu Simbel wellness resort, and technology company Thrive.Network.

What advice do you give to entrepreneurs starting up?

Mentorship is key, and I have been blessed to have mentors such as Quincy Smith ( https://azurebz.com/) who is an international business leader that has achieve billions in contracts and settlement arrangements globally. Learning how to pitch to investors in less than 5 minutes, researching and believing in my vision. My advice to young entrepreneurs would be to have a strong foundation in believing in yourself and never allowing critics to say your dream is too big to achieve.  I passionately believe that consistency, working hard, but working smart with impeccable execution is invaluable.  I also emphasize partnering, collaborating, and working with friends, or businesspersons you trust that can help you in achieving your goals, and not going at it alone. I encourage study and research into your chosen field and surrounding yourself with intelligent people who may have skill sets you do not have, but who have the same determination and drive that you do. I also believe in reaching back, and the value of meaningful mentorship, as I have mentored, and mentoring young developers into becoming entrepreneurs.

What’s your vision and passion?

I have built a successful career that has been forged through resiliency and strength.  My journey recalls one of my favorite quotes by Iyanla Vanzant, “the trees with the strongest branches and deepest roots are those that have withstood the heavy winds and stormy weather, season after season.  My current ventures as the founder of Abu Simbel events, wellness resort and a technology company are simply another endeavor for an innovative entrepreneur! The former owner of “Kemet Kitchen,” which was a health-conscious restaurant in the heart of Dallas’ Deep Ellum area, I spent many years in IT usually as the only African American woman in a senior program management position. Although I thrived in this industry and was able to command a high, 6 figure income, I knew I had a greater calling to cater to my culture by offering platforms for collective creativity, expression, healing, along with innovating technology and community building and outreach.

Abu Simbel Wellness Resort

  • The wellness center is a private, peer to peer resort, that is a quick three-hour flight from the US.  It offers a relaxing vibe amongst our ancestors, with abundant fruit and mystical blue waters as the backdrop.  It is nestled away from the hustle and bustle of tourism and as touted as a must experience destination for healing and transformation in 2021
  • It is a non-medical retreat center that provides education on ancient wellness techniques that benefit participants today. To promote health and wealth. To inspire, transform and uplift personal and spiritual growth. Located amid the southern part of the Island of Ambergris.

Thrive. Network Online

  • Thrive Network to bring a new innovating social media platform blockchain that allows our voices and stories to be heard authentically and unapologetically without censorship or ambiguous algorithms.

Today we’re excited to introduce you to Aubrey Jimenez. Aubrey is a Dallas-Fort Worth based photographer and is also a content partner. Check out our conversation with Aubrey below.

Aubrey, you have one of the coolest jobs ever. Before we get into all of that though, for our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations, can you please briefly introduce yourself?

Hello, I am Aubrey Jimenez. I am a food and portrait photographer in Dallas/ Fort Worth. I have been a professional photographer for 10 years and I love what I do. Food photography is something that I added a few years ago and have really come to enjoy. Food is so universal. Like a universal love language. I love that you can engage anyone with some great food photography. I am a wife and a mom to 3 young kids. I have a small studio in my backyard in Colleyville and enjoy being outside with my family.

What do you love about food photography?

The perfection of it. Coming from shooting young children food photography is a completely different ballgame. I had to get used to the slower pace a first, but then I starting really enjoying taking my time and getting all the components right. Planning out shots so that all the elements worked together perfectly. In family photography, you have a short amount of time and you can direct, but you still get what you’re given in a way.

What made you want to try something so different from portrait photography?

A friend of mine asked me to do a shoot and I was reluctant at first, but the beauty of food has been something I have always noticed. When shooting weddings and events my favorite part was always the details  (especially the food table and place settings) I would get lost in my own world setting up shots and would have to remember I’m actually here for wedding photography.  I decided since I enjoy that so much food photography would probably come naturally and I decided to give it a shot. No pun intended.

What would you say your style of photography is?

Natural or lifestyle. I think it is important to shoot food the way it is served. To include human elements and even include models. People want to see what the food really looks like. I prefer shooting in restaurant to capture all the unique textures and patterns they have to offer.
