Art & Life with Aileen Collins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aileen Collins.

Aileen, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started as an artist by doing crafts for my mother who was a 1st grade teacher. I believe that is where my concept of shapes and colors. Then years later I painted using acrylics as my medium. My last painting was done for my father. When he passed in 1994 was the last time I picked up my brush. Then in 2017 I found myself stranded without a car so I had a lot of free time on my hand. That is where I started playing with different art apps to do digital collage and to my surprise a lot of art started coming out. That is when I concluded that God is the Artist and I am the paintbrush.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My artwork is a snapshot of my life. The places that I have visited or the memories of my past. I create digital collage artwork. I try to make the viewer think into my art in away.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I think it is a little easier because of social media. There are a lot of artist out there and some great ones at that. I think doing and getting involved in more artist events always helps an artist get more exposure.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have a website www.thejavagirlcollection.com or they can go to my IG page @thejavagirlcollection. That is where most of my work. I also attend many events. I also do custom work and place my work on stones, canvas, wood.
