Today we’d like to introduce you to Caddy Jurica.
Caddy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Caddy Corner Designs is a Dallas-based design studio specializing in calligraphy, hand lettering, and modern calligraphy workshops.
My husband and I formally founded Caddy Corner Designs as an LLC in 2015. We both work full time (I’m a Management Consultant and he’s a Business Intelligence Contractor), and utilize Caddy Corner Designs as a creative outlet!
We are passionate about creating custom calligraphy/lettering artwork, teaching modern calligraphy through workshops, and giving back a portion of all profits to local Dallas charities. We both selected a charity that we donate to on a quarterly basis and find it very fulfilling to be able to impact the city we love in some small way!
We will be hosting more modern calligraphy workshops at boutiques around town this summer!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Calligraphy and Hand Lettering Custom Art:
When a customer comes to me with an idea for something they want created, whether it be their wedding vows, a prayer for a nursery, signage for an event, and anything in between, I’m most energized by hearing the story behind the piece. I thrive working collaboratively to bring to life exactly what our clients envision. No two pieces are ever the same!
Modern Calligraphy Workshops:
My absolute favorite part about our business is bringing people together for Modern Calligraphy Workshops. Not only do I get to share our passion for the recently reinvigorated art of calligraphy, but I have the opportunity to create an environment for people to come take a break from their busy lives, relax, learn a new hands-on craft, and maybe even meet some friends along the way.
I teach calligraphy from a beginner’s standpoint. I provide the tools (in a take home kit), and we cover the basics of learning how to use the tools, create lower case and uppercase letter forms, and we discuss various ways to utilize calligraphy in daily life! I find it really important to partner with local Dallas boutiques to teach my classes, so students can get out in the community and learn more about Dallas and our small business owners! We’ve done classes in Dallas at The Akola Project, All Good Things Paper, Read Between The Lines, Swoozies, Savor Patisserie, and more!
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
We operate Caddy Corner Designs entirely on the side, which helps mitigate financial concerns. It is tricky to stay on top of taxes and managing finances though. We use a financial management system to help us stay organized with invoicing, and just this year hired a CPA to help us make the right moves financially.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
