Art & Life with Karlie Deitrick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karlie Deitrick.

Karlie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Well, my page kinda started on accident. I used to call myself the most boring person in Dallas. I went to work, went home, and that’s it. I was pretty miserable, and I just got tired of it. So I started going out more by myself around Dallas and took pictures as I went. I had no idea what a blogger was and only got an Instagram in 2017. Late I know lol but I started going out more and more and learning about the city and learning more about photography, and everything just kinda happened

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My art is everything about Dallas. I’m a Dallas native but grew up in W Plano/ Carrollton/ Colony area and moved to the city 3-4 years ago and I realized just how little I knew about Dallas. Dallas has so much to offer. So I find the awesome art/food/landmarks and tell you why it’s special. And I really hope that by doing that I inspire people to explore this city more.

How I create it though is by doing research. I find interesting places or places with history or merit and take my day off to go take a million pictures and google everything about it then post

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I don’t know if it’s a responsibility but art is definitely a way to work on things. I think everyone sees things in art they connect with on some level and that’s what makes it so valuable. The fact that I was looking for a way to get out more and take pictures that hopefully inspire other people to get out more absolutely makes my day.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can follow me on Instagram @karliedoesdallas. And if I inspired to go somewhere new in the city, I would love to see it! So hashtag me #karliedoesdallas. And if you are a local business that would like to be featured or would even like someone to run or help with your social media/ Instagram game, DM or email me.
