Art & Life with Skyler and Kelsey Styron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler and Kelsey Styron.

Skyler and Kelsey, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Our story is a pretty simple one! Skyler became interested in photography several years ago, bought himself a camera, and taught himself as much as he could. Pretty soon I was tagging along on shoots with him, and before we knew it, we were a photography team! We found a mutual love for photographing couples and weddings, and have since focused our skillset primarily on couple photography. As a husband and wife team, we really have each brought our own strengths to the table. We know where each of our strengths and weaknesses lie, and complement one another effortlessly.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We are wedding photographers that focus on the real, candid moments of each couple’s celebrations. We love adventurous, unique, and original celebrations that truly show a couple’s personality.

Our message is simple: love and personality.

We strive to make our work personal to each couple. We don’t want to be another vendor at the wedding. We want to truly get to know our clients so we can capture them as accurately as possible. We hope people look at our photos and admire the storytelling. To us, it’s about all the real moments, whether that be laughter, smiles, or tears.

We really aim to create photos that are timeless and classic. We want couples to be able to look back on their wedding photos 50 years from now and relive that entire day over again. There really is something special about capturing a moment through an image, and we hope those memories can be enjoyed for generations to come.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
We define success in two ways:

1. Staying true to yourself as an artist and as an individual.

Any artistic field is tough to break into, and there has been many struggles along the way. Skyler and I have always stayed true to our art in the sense that we do what we enjoy and try to stay away from all the trends. In an oversaturated market it’s easy to look at other people’s work and/or social media following and doubt yourself. We try to ignore all the noise and just focus on our work.

2. Client Satisfaction

The number one thing we care about is the client experience. A lot of people that contact us have never had professional photos taken, so we try to make the process as fun and easy as possible. We know we’ve done a great job when we deliver the photos and our clients are over the moon. We’ve put so much work into our client experience and it really makes it all worth it when we have clients that are totally in love with their photos.
