Today we’d like to introduce you to Arielle Humphries.
Arielle, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I received my first ever film camera for Christmas when I was eight years old. I specifically asked my parents for an Advantix auto film camera. I remember rushing through opening my gifts until I got to my camera. I just couldn’t wait to save every moment on a filmstrip. From then on I photographed anything & everything around me. I won’t ever be able to thank my mom enough for the time and money spent developing hundreds of my blurry out of focus photos. That started my passion that continues today!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
How incredible is it that we can save a moment in time forever? Better yet we can preserve the feelings and emotions of that moment through photos. Photography has always felt so magical to me in that way. I love to capture weddings, births, babies, families…all of it! Every moment big or small. I have a passion for creating lifestyle images that portray the happiness and beauty in this life. I imagine my clients looking at these photos for years to come and passing them down to younger generations. Remembering what they looked and felt like at that time.
The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Keep believing in yourself and invest in yourself when you can whether it be tools or education. Most of all, put your creativity to work! I can’t believe I am going to share this with the internet, but I remember years ago struggling to make ends meet while pregnant with my second child. I put an ad on craigslist offering photography in exchange for the baby items I needed. At the time my pictures were not spectacular, but by doing that, I was able to gain experience and receive what I needed at the time. Today it makes me laugh that I ever did that. But it got me through! No matter where you are in your journey, never lose your hustle. There are sometimes missed opportunities and connections to be made when you start to self-doubt yourself.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I primarily share my work on my website and social media.
