Today we’d like to introduce you to Desmond Williams.
Hi Desmond, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in pleasant grove and found my passion for music at a young age. My family would always say I would rock myself to sleep as if I was listening to music. I grew up listening to Hip-Hop, I remember as a kid watching Tupac, Biggie, and listening to other artist like Bun-B, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg & NWA, who all inspired me to be who I am today. I was also inspired by actors such as Martin Lawerence, Jamie Foxx, & Will Smith. Seeing people of my color on the big screen was a huge inspiration for me. My journey was never easy and is still not today. My first time on the mic was in a studio with my dad, uncle, and friends who had a hip-hop group named Asylum. Being around them showed me the process of how music was made. I was always inspired by MCs who shared their true stories. I wrote my first rhymes in middle school, in my grandmother’s back room. ”Growing up where I’m from it was hard still had my head on my mom, used to cry but told her baby boy to be strong I’m thinking what’s wrong, I’m in a different zone what’s going on its so much pain I can’t strain I got to maintain so I just pray to the man upstairs.” I was always driven by having faith and trusting God when I didn’t have all the answers. This still applies today in my career. With hard work, dedication, and never giving up on yourself or dreams you can accomplish anything. I attended Skyline High school and got a scholarship in Basketball to Manhattanville College in NYC. I’ve always enjoyed learning and being a student of the game picking up knowledge from my mentors & others in the entertainment industry. My whole goal is to encourage others to never stop in what they believe in.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Being an Independent artists has a lot of challenges that come with it. Some of the struggles are, facing diversity, creating a full brand from scratch, having to multitask your personal life, artist life, and finding the balance between it all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a music artist, producer, actor, & entrepreneur. I am the owner of Dreams Come Tru Records, my own independent record label. I specialize in creating content, from creating music to working with other artists & brands and partnerships. I am known for my music & live performances. I love to rock the stage! I have shared the stage with some of my favorite artists such as T.I., Ludacris, Lupe Fiasco, Bun B, & Dave East, to name a few, and have worked with major brand deals such as Adidas, Smart water, Champion, Levis, & Bud Light. I am most proud of where I came from, and the journey it has led me to who I am today. I am my only competition, I always focus on the man in the mirror, I am my worst critic, and never point fingers at others, it’s all on me, this is what sets me apart from others.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Dallas will always be my home, it’s always inspirational and I feel like Dallas will be on top soon! I feel like our city can unite more, and push our culture globally we have all the potential and a lot of gems to do so.
