Check Out Juan Sandoval’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Sandoval.

Hi Juan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I loved being in the kitchen and seeing what I could make. As I got older, I lost that. It wasn’t until I got a job in a kitchen where I received my love for baking. I went back to school and found cake decorating was fun. During school, I started Ed’s Cakery. There has been some ups and downs but they have helped me to get to where I am at today. My business is doing so great.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Starting off, I wasn’t getting any orders so on the weekends, I would make a cake and take pictures to build up my social media. I also have some giveaway that has helped me get more traffic to my accounts. Another thing that I am always find are new recipes. I have has some trials in error when is comes to finding the best recipes that works best for me. I can’t tell you how many recipes I’ve tried just to get the right one. And there was a lot.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in customer cake and cookies decorating. When it comes to decorating, I love getting new projects that I have never done. Most people I know draw out and outline of their cake before they make it. For me, once the custom tells me what they are looking for, I start thinking of what I want the cake to look like and from there I start making it. There are still a few things that I am learning like working the fondant but it’s getting better. One thing that I am known for are my cake jars. I offer as of right now, three different cake jars which are Birthday Cake, Strawberry Cake, and S’more Cake. Each one has a specific filling and are place in Mason jars. So far, the cake that I am most proud of is a wedding cake I did for a friend that is just beautiful.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One thing that most people might not know about me is that I’m a huge vinyl record collector. I love being able to discover artists that I have never heard through vinyl. It feels different being able to hear a song on vinyl then from your phone. I currently have about 100 records. So if anyone has any suggestions on what vinyl I would get next, I’m open ears.
