Check out Vincent Fink’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vincent Fink.

Born April 1st, 1984 and growing up in the ever-crowding greater Houston area, Vincent Fink is a contemporary surrealist & full-time artist working out of his Winter Street Studio in the Arts District where he tirelessly adds to a multitude of expansive projects. He instills messages of esoteric knowledge and story-telling into each piece he creates. His first series started in 2010 with vigorously detailed greyscale Sumi ink drawings spawned from a lucid dream.

After attaining a degree in Media Arts & Animation from The Art Institute of Houston, he worked as a graphic designer searching in life for a higher purpose, a direction with his artistic abilities, yet was extremely lost. Then one night, with a sketch pad by his bed, he dreamt his future work and immediately awoke to record it. In his subconscious state, he saw the first completed piece that would establish his art career. This series became known as the Atlas Metamorphosis and continues to take us through the four stages of an other-worldly, gigantic god-like beetle’s evolution.

He abandoned his day job as a graphic designer after chasing the goal of higher pay only to find himself being shouted at by short-sighted supervisors who didn’t appreciate his talent. From this, a course was set out to pursue his passion; to love his work. Vincent employed himself with co-owner and lover Tina Lara, to start Point506; a clothing brand that aims to “clothe a general populous with fashionable designs that will inspire engagement in the sciences.” Vincent taught himself to hand screen-print his drawings onto garments and worked his way out of unemployment in a leaky warehouse room for four years to where he is today.

Since then, Vincent has shown at many museums and reputable local galleries as well as abroad in Brooklyn, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, California, Michigan, Oklahoma, Austin, Art Basel in Miami, Florida and Rome, Italy. He has won art prizes like The Big Show, TalentCall and was a Hunting Art Prize Finalist more than once.

He consistently challenges himself to venture into uncharted realms that may seem extraordinary. Including, but not limited to, street art and, most recently, animated projection art installations. His work continues to blend the worlds of art and science, realism and imaginary, 2D, 3D, and 4D as a unified frontier and the zeitgeist of his generation.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I intend to share my thoughts, dreams, and nightmares in order to help elevate the human condition and understanding of one’s self as part of the collective. My primary medium is subconsciousness on consciousness. The Atlas Metamorphosis is my manifesto and Iterations are my patterns of refining an ever-changing interpretation of the world.

My work is multidisciplinary and multidimensional as I expand from two-dimensional detailed perspective drawings and Sacred Geometry surrealism paintings into three and four-dimensional installations that reveal a surreal glimpse of our corporal reality using a vast array of sculptural and temporal mediums. Such media include animation, street art, and music.

No matter what branch of my artistic studies, I consider myself a Surrealist. It is always my intent to connect with the viewer on dreams and the subconscious mind, be it lucid, or in waking life.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Get out into the physical world. Got to art openings. Talk to lots of people there. Hand out your card, get people’s numbers and social media. Follow up to hang out or collaborate. That’s where the real magic happens. I should be doing more of this myself, but it’s hard when you just want to create.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Upcoming exhibitions are always posted on my website under Events.
