Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sheila. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Food is my love language. Ever since I was a little girl, you could hear me express it with every “Mmmm Mmmm” sound as I chewed. It wasn’t until my early teen years that my relationship with food changed. Struggling with body image, I spiraled into years of yo-yo dieting and occasional binge eating. It was a cycle that I could not break until my Father passed away from health problems and my perception on life changed. A year later, I became a Mom and health became more important than ever. I was working in a hospital at the time in ICU, alongside an amazing Dietician that helped guide/teach me the importance of nutrition. Being more aware of what I put into my body, ultimately changed my relationship with food and health. That meant paying more attention to ingredients and choosing healthier options when cooking.
Within a year, I lost 40 pounds, lowered my cholesterol and felt my best self. Being a late bloomer to learning how to cook, I felt so proud of my healthy and flavorful meal preps that I started sharing them on social media. As the recipe requests flooded in from friends and family, it created a passion to help others seeking a healthier lifestyle. A year ago, I decided to turn my passion for food and wellness into a blog. The Taste Bunny, a blog sharing healthy recipes and restaurant finds launched November 2019.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When pursuing your passion, there will be moments of self-doubt and bumps in the road that might make you question what you’re doing. I’ve had them many times and to pull myself out of those thoughts, I remember my WHY. Your why is your purpose, your message and your story. My advice for all Women is to not lose sight on why you started in the first place. It makes it easier when facing obstacles.
What should we know about The Taste Bunny? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Taste Bunny is almost like a character and she is known for being the ultimate foodie. I speak of her in third person because she is my alter ego outside of being a Mama of 4 and Wife. Blogging is my creative outlet to share my love for exploring new foods and making colorful recipes. To me, what makes it special is the energy it brings to the wellness community. I’m here to show you that healthy food can be fun, colorful, flavorful and spicy! It does not have to be boring, which is a misconception.
I am most proud of how much I’ve grown as an individual and entrepreneur. I recently launched a beauty business called Beauty Bunny & Co, which is a sister company to The Taste Bunny. Beyond food, I’m now whipping up hydrating lip glosses made with Organic oils and sugar lip scrubs. All products are Vegan & Cruelty-Free. Looking forward to creating more recipes, from healthy food to Organic beauty!
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
As food bloggers, Women are dominating on the web and social media. In the restaurant industry, there are more Men chefs than Women, which proves there is still room for improvement. Women have come a long way, but we still have to keep pushing hard to make a change.
