Conversations with Rod Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rod Clark. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
LEC KIX originated in 2014 as a soley online business. We are also known in the sneaker community as I frequented sneaker trade shows over the years. I have always had a passion for sneakers and street fashion since I was a young child, so it was only natural that I saw an opportunity to go into business when the sneaker culture became an obsession in the mainstream and not just the urban community. I started out just selling sneakers on multiple reseller platforms and social media, and after much success with online sales, I saw the need for a brick-and-mortar space. After several months of looking for a space, I settled on the space inside Desoto’s Grow Marketplace for two reasons. First, I have lived, worked, and served in the community on the south sector for years now, and I wanted to give back by providing a quality business that provides a premium product and positive environment. Secondly, as a sneaker consumer as well I felt the void and the need for a high-end sneaker boutique on the south sector. My ultimate goal is to provide a positive environment for sneaker enthusiast like myself to come buy, sell, trade, and vibe out. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening a business in the middle of a pandemic has had its challenges. Consumers are still getting back on their feet and spending with caution. Also being one of the first sneaker boutiques in this area has been a challenge as well. It’s going to take time to earn the community’s trust and build a solid reputation. Foot traffic has been slow and we hope to continue to find ways to market the Desoto Grow Marketplace where the store is located. There are so many great businesses inside and many people in the community are still not aware. 

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a middle-aged father of four and husband, college-educated, and working a full-time job. What started as a hobby because of my love for sneakers has flourished into something much more. I think what sets me apart is that I’m a fan of the culture first. I love all types of sneakers and fashion. I’ve always had a keen eye for fashion and I can take a pair of shoes that no one has paid any attention to and put it with the right outfit and everyone loves it. My prices are competitive and my selection is updated constantly. 

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family and friends have been my biggest supporters. Too many to name, but they all chipped in when needed. I also have a strong group of supporters over social media that have been instrumental in building my brand.
