Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Melton.
Hi Allison, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from Irving but I moved to Corsicana 5 years ago. I am a chef and I teach high school culinary arts! I wanted an outlet to be creative and living in a small town there isn’t much to do. I started Electric Batter Bakery to be fun and creative, with amazing tasting desserts. I am a huge fan of pop-punk music so I really wanted my company to reflect that love of all things pop-punk.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had Electric Batter open for almost a year and it has been really fun. Balancing running a bakery but also teaching high school full time has been my biggest challenge. Just making sure I keep everything going and still take time for my mental health is key!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am proud to say that Electric Batter issues all fresh high-quality products. I want to give my customers the best experience when enjoying my desserts so it is very important to me that everything is make from scratch.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe I have really strong work ethic. If it isn’t perfect, I don’t want it out for others to see. I have an amazing husband who helps pick me up when I feel like I am falling short. I always say, if you are running a business why not perfect in one area before trying to do too much.
I see lots of other small bakery businesses fail or have lower ratings because they are trying to spread themselves too thin.
