Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori DuBose.
Hi Tori, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a new business owner who graduated from University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. I decided to go out on my own because I wanted to prove to myself as well as my family and peers that I can be successful in the design field as a Black Designer. There isn’t much representation for Black men and women in this career field, so some may not know how many there really are. With me being young as well, it could prove difficult starting out, but I’m sure with God’s direction, I will succeed. I’m slowing trying to gain clients and push to be persistent on social media. Being a business owner is hard lol, but I’m definitely ready for the challenge.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say one of my struggles has been figuring out business taxes. It’s a scary thing, not wanting to mess up the money you’re supposed to report. But the people who deal with that are very friendly and helpful so it has definitely eased the process. Other than that, it’s just staying consistent and positive. I can be an overthinker and hard on myself if it seems like I’m not doing enough, so I have to remind myself to take one step at a time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a Residential Interior Designer. I specialize in remodels, furniture sourcing, space planning, and consults. I really love color and bold choices. I like clients who aren’t afraid to step out of the box or use colors in their homes. I enjoy bringing my clients happiness and really taking care of them throughout the renovation process. It can be tough having your home tore up but believe me, it is all worth it in the end.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love to cook! Cooking is such a fun activity and you get to be creative with food. I honestly love all creative outlets. dancing, singing, instrument playing, anything artsy I love!
