Hidden Gems: Meet Alexius Pate of The Lex Effect Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexius Pate.

Hi Alexius, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
So I actually started my business back in 2020, at this time I was working at Walmart as a pharmacy tech. I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry. It didn’t matter if was YouTube or starting my small cosmetics & accessories business. I actually started a little after pandemic, so it was a little discouraging at first because I wasn’t very outspoken as I am now, so it was struggle at first. I was a shy person and I knew if I wanted to start a business, I have come out of this shell of mine. My little sister and I actually came up with the name of my business we struggled so many nights trying to find a name that stood out for us, but we eventually got it right on the money “the lex effect” but I knew wanted to add different product in my business so we added “collection” at the end of it. My sister has been a great help with my business because she really good with social media and her character is so wonderful, she very social and knows how to move very well with others! Not many people know I lost my dad a couple of months into my business and it was actually the peak of things for me. I really didn’t get a chance to even tell him I started my own business so that even pushed me more to strive for greatness because I didn’t give up even when I wanted, having a business isn’t for the weak, I say that because you have to be mentally & emotionally ready for this it’s not all peaches & cream. You have to be able to understand we win and we might lose but at least you took a chance because some don’t…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This isn’t been a smooth road because having to balance a full-time job & your own business is stressful alone. Sometimes you may have a good week and the other week could be bad. I had to learn how to not compare my business to others, all that does messes with your mental.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Besides being the owner of The Lex Effect Collection. As I mentioned earlier, I do work a full-time job as a Pharmacy Technician. I do enjoy working in the healthcare industry and being able to make a difference in someone’s life. I wanted to become entrepreneur and pursue what makes me happy in life which is having affordable items that make others happy.

I am most proud that I did not give up on my vision because it’s a struggle when you feel like you don’t have a gang of friends that believe in your vision as well but it all starts with you… how do you expect someone to believe in you when you don’t believe in yourself first.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself educating younger girls about starting small business and turning into a big business. Also, bringing positivity to them because we could uplift each other throughout our journey of being business owners because I know that we could lose hope in ourselves because business isn’t going how we imagine it to be.
