Inspiring Conversations with Stephen & Katie Bevilacqua of Pothos Social

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen & Katie Bevilacqua.

Hi Stephen & Katie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We’re a husband and wife duo with a passion for supporting local business, and we created Pothos Social to do just that. It is a digital marketing company with a primary focus on social media services and online reputation management — two big factors in the success for local businesses who can’t rely on the reputation or resources large chains have. With an MBA and a degree Communication Studies and Media Strategies, in addition to backgrounds in sales enablement and marketing for over 175 businesses across the U.S., we took our skills and experience to support local businesses beyond just being a customer.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, it has been fairly smooth, but gaining clients’ trust and encouraging them to make this kind of investment in their businesses, especially when the pandemic hit them so hard, hasn’t been easy. Being a small business ourselves, we have an advantage because we can be sensitive to this and adjust pricing and packages to show that a partnership with us is well worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Pothos Social, the health and success of our clients’ businesses are our top priority. We are passionate about building strong relationships, understanding core values, and providing a wide scope of digital marketing solutions. Through this, the business owners we work with can feel a sense of reassurance and confidence, knowing that their digital presence is in good hands.

We offer a wide variety of digital marketing services to grow our clients’ online presence, such as branding, social media marketing, reputation management, email marketing, and graphic design. We want to bring the feeling of walking into our client’s shop, getting their product in the mail, or experiencing their fantastic service online for the world to see.

Because we’re a local business like our clients, we understand the value of personalized service, thorough work, and making decisions they feel confident in. We can offer flexible pricing and packages, 24/7 service, and a more personal relationship than bigger marketing companies.

We chose the name “Pothos” for several reasons. First, it’s a plant that’s low-maintenance — our company takes the same approach. Our clients can leave the digital marketing to us and take a hands-off approach but still see the results. Second — it’s easy to grow, much like the relationships we have with our clients. Lastly, they grow quickly, like the results we provide.

What were you like growing up?
We met in high school, so a lot of our growing up has been together! Growing up and even now, we’re complete opposites — which makes us such a great pair.

As kids and teenagers, Stephen was a team-sport star, and Katie was into the arts. We found common ground — Katie was a swimmer and Stephen played violin, but our strengths and interests were more different than similar. It’s true that they say opposites attract!

Stephen’s the logic, strategy, and business brain. He drives the ideas and works until they’re a reality. Katie’s the emotion, creative, and visionary. She can understand what clients are looking for and bring it to life. Both of us are outgoing and relationship – focused, so we both take heart in getting to know our clients and their stories.
