Jon-Michael, it’s been too long since we last connected. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with our community again. Some readers might have missed our prior conversations, so maybe you can kick things off for us with a quick intro?
I am an entrepreneur with a passion for menswear, menswear education, and most recently, software engineering.
In the last ten years, I have dedicated myself to small business and local economic development. I work closely with other entrepreneurs, c-level executives, and senior leadership to create unique projects that bring brand awareness and generate revenue.
As a part of my portfolio, I own and operate a footwear brand, Style by JM.
It’s been a while since our last interview; what’s new with Style by JM?
Last year, we focused more on enhancing our online experience, making internal changes to our operations, and adding new tools to our business tool belt. Truthfully, a complete pivot.
This year, we will launch our new web application featuring eight new ready-to-wear pieces that will live alongside our preexisting “By Request” program.
What are some new challenges you’re facing in a post COVID world? How have/are you overcoming them?
My most significant challenge was getting in front of new customers. At the time, we were in complete lockdown or not allowed to be within six feet of anyone outside of our household.
The solution to this problem was to revisit our online approach and use data to help lead the brand into the future. Our web application is packed with marketing and sales tools to help us connect with our current customer base and reach new customers across the web.
What was the inspiration behind Style by JM’s new ready-to-wear line?
I wanted to pay homage to the brands that have inspired me in my journey as a designer. So I sampled French silhouettes, Italian materials, and Spanish craftsmanship to create a ready-to-wear line that is timeless in style and fashionable but, most importantly, comfortable.
Will there be a space on your new web app for custom orders?
Yes! We will still be taking custom-made orders from our “By Request” service. The application will allow our customers to create Style by JM pieces with their stylish touch. You will have access to our entire catalog of leather goods, materials, soles and add personal customizations to your design.
Do you have any in-person experiences planned any time soon?
We plan to have some in-person experiences; the first event this year will be for the official re-launch of Style by JM as an online store and our new ready-to-wear line. I want our customers to have the chance to hold and see our pieces in person and experience what we’ve been working on for the last few years.
Alright, so before we go, how can our readers connect with you to learn more and show support?
