Life and Work with Hilaire Baumgartner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilaire Baumgartner.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey to creating Baumassfoods started a few years ago, although it has only been around for much shorter. I never was interested in cooking until my early 20’s. At that time, I was very into weightlifting and naturally started to cook more during that journey. Fast forward a year or two, and a few plant-based documentaries began creating a lot of buzz. I spoke with three long-time vegetarian friends of mine, who reassured me that I wouldn’t waste away or live off of lettuce by making the switch. I went vegetarian cold turkey for a month and then switched to full vegan right after that. Throughout that time, I documented my meals on IG off and on and got a lot of inquiry from friends. It wasn’t until after the birth of my son, that I decided to create Baumassfoods, both as a creative outlet for me and as a way to showcase how easy the switch can be! One of my best friends also had a blog and helped me set up the back end of it all. The rest is history!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, yes. The hardest part has always been figuring out tech stuff. Other than that, I try not to stress or get wrapped up in the numbers game.

For women just starting the journey:
1. Try not to compare yourself to other people’s success or numbers.
2. Follow other people who are outside your “niche.”
3. JUST DO IT – whatever that may be. There is never a perfect or right time to do anything.

Please tell us about BaumAssFoods.
BaumAssFoods is pronounced “bomb ass foods.” The name comes from my last name, Baumgartner, and those who know me personally know that the name fits my personality well!

I am a food blogger + food photographer who shares and creates bomb-ass food content for the novice + seasoned plant-based foodie!

On my blog and social media channels you’ll find; recipes I’ve created, recipes from other bloggers, local plant-based spots, grocery tips, healthy eating for kids, and pretty much anything food related!

My readers know that when I post it will be honest, concise, and bomb-ass!

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Definitely. My battle with bulimia as a pre-teen/teenager made me truly appreciate my self + food for what it is, which has ultimately developed my confidence. I’m very thankful I dealt with that as an adolescent and fully recovered before adulthood. Not having those issues to deal with while having a food blog has made this a smooth ride. I see a lot of other bloggers who finally admit to struggling with eating issues, and I always imagine that being impossible to balance.
