Meet Andrew Chadwick of Thanecrafted in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Chadwick.

Andrew, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been cooking and experimenting with food my entire life. I began cooking for my family. In later years, I cooked for my fellow troops overseas. Today, I cook for my customers in the form of salsa and pickled produce. My passion has always been to become an entrepreneur and use my success to help those less fortunate than myself. With a bit of encouragement from friends and family, I am finally taking steps to make my dreams a reality. I started small, determined to grow my business organically. Initially, I invested $200 to create my first few batches of spiked papaya salsa, dill pickles, and bread and butter pickles. I cherish each and every customer I have because they are helping me achieve my dreams. I make quality food – not for the money, but for the smiles, my creations deliver and the happy memories of which my products play a part.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Struggles will always make positive outcomes more rewarding. I have faced several struggles in making Thanecrafted a quality product. The pickling process is very much like a chemistry exam. You have to be precise or you’ll end up with different results. Through trial and error, I have learned how different temperatures can cause cucumbers to wilt inside the brine, drastically affecting the overall taste. I’ve had to juggle my time, investing it in the business while also working full-time as a dietary manager for an elderly care center. There are many days in which I work long hours at my job and then return home to craft more batches of salsa and pickles for customers and events, I find that the challenges are well worth the reward as I watch my business grow.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Thanecrafted – what should we know?
Thanecrafted specializes in making pickles, salsa, and other pickled products like beets and asparagus. Our dill pickles are known for melting peoples faces. It is rewarding to watch customer after customer sample them. Their eyes roll back and you hear the words “Oh, my god, these are good”. Watching those reactions is what I am most proud of. If I can make one person at an event make that face, then I count that day as a success, even if I don’t sell a single jar. What makes my product different from any others is that I pour my heart into every batch. As my slogan says, my goal is to get my products from my hearth to your home. It doesn’t hurt, that I am also not afraid to go bold with flavors or ingredients.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My girlfriend, Erin Richardson, and her family. They were the first people to convince me that what I create was a quality product and people would flock to it. Erin has been beside me the entire process, helping with production, branding, and keeping me motivated. But my biggest motivations come from my cousin Sara and my mother, both of whom passed away last year. When Sara committed suicide last spring, I had been battling suicide myself. Her death became the catalyst that spearheaded me into changing my life because I vowed to live life great enough for her and I. The day that I decided to make Thanecrafted happen, I called to tell my mother that her son was chasing his dreams. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to tell her because she had passed away. Their memory keeps me motivated each and every day.

    I love Thanecrafted’s salsa and pickled products. Their salsa has spoiled any others for me; I love that kick of papaya in the first bite. And the golden beets are so unique. I’ve never seen them anywhere else. If you try their stuff, you’ll definitely be back to more. I may join that salsa support group one of the pictures mentioned. 😀
