Meet Andy Stout of The AndroidZen in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Stout.

Andy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been involved with music one way or another most of my life. Playing violin in middle school and then playing drums in a punk band in high school. I really started diving in and investing real time into music & learning how to use a Digital Audio Workstation about 5 years ago. The first time I made a song with a computer (DAW) I was hooked.

It was just a hobby for the first 3 years, messing around when I had some free time. It all really changed when I started designing my own electronic drum kits to use. Using analog synthesizers & drum machines to record my own custom sounds. I started recording videos for social media of me finger drumming beats on an electronic drum pad. Getting positive feedback on the videos, I then realized two things. That I wanted to be able to perform anything that I can make on a computer; and that I wanted to turn sound designing into a career.

I took the steps that I needed to start my own business & operate online. I am now getting paid to provide custom music & sounds effects for different types of video and media projects. I recently put together a producer sound pack of some of my favorite custom drum kits. The sound pack is about to go up for sale on my website. Now I just need to find some people and start a psychedelic Hip Hop band.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Getting your name out and making money from music isn’t always the easiest thing. I have yet to receive my big payday or music placement. Maybe one day soon. Until then I can only learn as much as possible to take steps in furthering my career. I just got an Avid Pro Tools certification, hopefully, that can help to get bigger sound design & music score gigs. I am still releasing live music videos on social media using my own custom sounds, which has been great for promotion.

The AndroidZen – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I do sound design and music composing for video and other media projects. I specialize in spacey Sci-Fi and video game sounds.
