Meet April Crimbley

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Crimbley.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started writing when I was a teenager. I wrote poems, short stories, and plays. I would invite friends over to play the parts in the plays I wrote and record them on a cassette tape. After I graduated from college, I went to work at a government agency helping people find work. I was eventually asked to lead a job search seminar for executives which required updating the training materials for relevancy in the current job market. Writing training materials for the seminar led to an Instructional Designer job in corporate America. I also volunteered at church as a children’s church leader/teacher which involved writing curriculum for 3-5-year-olds. I’ve been developing training, eLearning courses, and performance support items like job aids and quick reference guides for years. I love writing and have kept a journal since I was a teen. My journals have led to writing two books that I have published. The first book is about how to live a fulfilling single life and was released in 2008. My current book, which will be released in September, is about how to successfully make the transition from single to married life.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life has been full of ups and downs, but I’ve always kept my head up and looked for the positive in every situation. I had a wonderful childhood. My mom was a single parent of five children, but we had everything we needed including lots of gifts at Christmas time. We often played board games on the weekends and even now I love board games. My outlook on life has always been full of hope, although I have had struggles.

I’ve been through the disappointment of divorce. When I was single, there were times when I was terribly lonely and felt like no one cared. It was kind of difficult for me to find my place in society and in the world as a divorced single parent. It felt like people were shunning me because I had a child and was no longer married. I was used to being a wife so it took some time for me to figure out who I was as an individual. Things were tough financially. I was living paycheck to paycheck and finally had to sell the house we were living in. My daughter and I moved into an apartment and lived there for years.

Through journaling, spending time alone getting to know myself, and in prayer time with God, I gained confidence in who God created me to be. I came to the realization that I was created for a reason and that there are people in this world that only I reach. I decided to take some free computer tutorials at the library to enhance my computer skills. This led to a better paying job. I eventually bought a new house for me and my daughter.

The road has not been smooth and there were struggles, but we made it out.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about April Crimbley Books – what should we know?
My company is April Crimbley Books which is a child company of my publishing company, Abundant Publishing. The goal I want to accomplish with my publishing company is to produce books that inspire people to live life to the fullest. The company started with simple day-to-day journaling. The content in my journals turned into the books that I have published. I’ve received feedback from people that my books have helped enrich their lives.

In a world that is so full of darkness right now, we need to hear that there is hope. My publishing company will produce books that will encourage the world with hope and inspire them to pursue greatness. We all have something positive inside us that we can share with the world. Hopefully, Abundant Publishing and April Crimbley Books will provide a platform for those wanting to share their message of hope to others.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mom has always been a big supporter and cheerleader for me. I always hear her words of encouragement in my head and I still have memories of seeing her on her knees praying at night. This is what keeps me going.
