Meet Arcman Durosier of Bel Nouvo Beauty in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arcman Durosier.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Arcman. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My entrepreneurial journey story begins with me simply wanting to find a solution to a problem that my sister had. While away in college, she adopted a more natural lifestyle and wanted to include natural beauty products into her regimen. She struggled to find solutions for moisturizing her hair and skin. Inspired by her struggle (and being the great big brother that I am), I decided to develop natural products for her to use.

My formal educational background was in Healthcare Administration, so I basically had to teach myself cosmetic chemistry. I did my research on apothecary, holistic beauty, and watched YouTube videos to help form my basic understanding. It was a lot of trial & error to develop the right formula, but I tapped into my Haitian roots to create something effective yet distinguished. The outcome was a prototype hair pomade/butter and it became my sister’s go-to product to keep her natural hair moisturized & manageable.

She later began sharing the product with friends and that soon turned into me whipping up more by request. After getting great feedback from multiple people, I decided to share that product with a larger audience. I first began vending at church events, local markets, expos, and pop-up shops. I then took my creations to the internet and through e-commerce, I have been able to share my products and build a profitable online store.

Since 2012, I developed a full-fledged beauty collection including multiple hair products, crèmes, and lotions. Increasing the range of products helped to grow our brand tremendously. I have has shipped my handcrafted + natural beauty products to customers all over the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe. Bel Nouvo Beauty has collectively garnered almost 15,000 followers on various social media platforms, several YouTube reviews from bloggers/influencers, and expanded distribution to select beauty boutiques. The ideal next step for my brand is to expand operations and distribution into major retail stores.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As a solo entrepreneur, there have been many challenges in building a business. There are principles in business that I’ve had to learn along the way. Not having a business background or mentor initially, did hurt the early part of the journey. After a few costly mistakes, I got connected with the right people with helpful information and began implementing better practices.

Managing a schedule, budgets, and logistics to reach goals is an ongoing learning experience. It has been rewarding in many ways, but there is still more to learn. As a solo entrepreneur, I have had to take on the role of CEO, marketer, manufacturer, fulfillment, and customer service. Although these tasks aren’t always fun, I know the importance of doing them well in order to see continued growth in my business.

I never imagined Bel Nouvo would grow to all of this, but I am grateful and humbled by the support over the years. I attribute my faith, work ethic, and building relationships as the secrets to success.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bel Nouvo Beauty – what should we know?
At Bel Nouvo Beauty, we provide handcrafted + natural products for healthier hair + skin.

Our company primarily provides solutions for women with textured hair and those who are seeking vegan body products. We do it all from shampoos to conditioners to body butter. All of our products are handcrafted with natural ingredients to NEVER include parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, petroleum, soy, & artificial colors.

The hair products are what we’ve come to gain a great reputation for. Women with textured hair are conscious consumers that care about ingredients as much as effectiveness. We built a loyal following for being consistent in providing solutions that meet their standards. That’s something that I take seriously and it makes me proud to know that we’re helping so many women the same way I helped my sister.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Throughout the years, I have found that building a community of entrepreneurs and leaders has been the secret sauce for my wins as a business owner. I have made it a point to go beyond traditional networking and make meaningful connections. My tribe of entrepreneurs give the counsel and encouragement that have played a major role in my success.
