Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernard C. Akomas.
Bernard, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always desired to become financially free since I was a teen and eventually became fascinated with business, finance and investing. One reason I wanted to become wealthy was to have the ability to empower others by teaching them how to become and stay wealthy through financial literacy. After working odd jobs for two years and not really having a plan on what I wanted to do with my life, at the age of 20, I decided to take my mom’s advice and enroll in community college. Six long years later, I graduated with my MBA and excelled professionally in the supply chain industry.
Although I consider myself very blessed with a good job, a nice salary, married to my middle school sweetheart and three beautiful children, but something was still missing… I desired financial freedom. I wanted to be in total control of my income streams, earning potential, and time which corporate job did not provide. I prayed for guidance to change my direction and to obtain what I truly desired, and a month later, I started my own business. I continued to work my normal 9-5 job and worked full-time on my businesses. I used my main income source (job) to help fund my businesses until my business income matched or exceeded my job income. In conclusion, after working many long nights and weekends, partnering with like-minded individuals, and receiving mentorship, my business became profitable.
Has it been a smooth road?
Overcoming poverty, having my first child at 16, obtaining my GED, and in and out of the judicial system as a teen is anything but experiencing a “smooth road” in life. I have had my share of trials and tribulations throughout my life but with faith on my side, I knew I would have a successful life and career. My mother played a huge roll in my success. She always saw greatness in me even when I didn’t see in myself. She is honestly one of my biggest supporters and my hero. She planted the seed within me to work hard and my own business and I am forever grateful and appreciative. At the age of 27, I begin to read, study and execute my abilities, which later gave me the courage to start my own business. I guess you can say. I began to water the seed my mother planted, developed a plan and stuck to it… Now three years later, I am here and flourishing.
