Meet Bryson Funk of Loft Stories in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryson Funk.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Bryson. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been a musician and songwriter on the local level for over 10 years now. Performing live music has been a huge joy and passion of mine. Now, my heart is to create a platform for the next round of local artists. I married my wife Meagan 3 years ago. She is also a creative and has a love for live and local music. Together we started a show series called Loft Stories. It originally started as a place for me to perform since I had just released my EP “Songs from the Everwood”. We gathered artists from our pool of friends and put together our first show headlined by Fort Worth native, Abraham Alexander. It was a lot bigger than we anticipated and we got amazing feedback afterwards. What started as a one time show, with help from our friends, turned into a series of shows. At the beginning of 2018, we partnered with BREDA Studios in Deep Ellum and now hold a show there every other month. Dallas is rich in songwriters and performers. And now they have a stage to share the hearts and stories behind their music.

Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, it’s been fairly smooth. There is no shortage of incredible musicians to pull from, so the lineups haven’t been too hard. We actually have our shows booked out till January of ’19. I would say the hardest part for us has been learning how to run a business and handle all of the issues that come from that. We literally started this from the ground up.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Loft Stories – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Loft Stories is a special and exclusive event. There are only 50 tickets sold per show. We keep the vibe very intimate. As a performer, the audience is literally there 5 ft. in front of you and all the attention is on you. It’s frustrating as a performer to be pouring out your heart in a song and look up, and no one is watching or paying attention to you. We wanted to create a non-downloadable experience. You show up, get some coffee and rub elbows with all the performers. Another thing that is special about Loft Stories is that there is a huge emphasis on the Stories. People want a deeper connection. Everything is about instant gratification now. Loft Stories is a place where you can relax and create connections that go beyond the surface level. Its one thing to know the words to a song, but it’s another thing to know where the artist was emotionally as they wrote and what was happening in their world.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Since I’ve been born and raised in Dallas, I’m pretty partial to it. I’ve traveled a lot in the past and you can’t find a city friendlier than Dallas. I also love the diversity. You have people from all over the world and from every walk of life here. The food in Dallas proper is amazing as well. Every type of cuisine you can imagine. That is the Dallas I love. My only complaint is the heat. You would think that I’m used to it by now, but I’m not. I always say, if we could just move the entire city of Dallas to the west coast, it would be heaven on earth.
