Meet Martha Jackson and Nellie Sciutto of The Bubble Lounge Podcast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martha Jackson and Nellie Sciutto.

While Martha and Nellie share a passion and love of the Park Cites, their backgrounds could not be more different.

Martha majored in Radio TV Film Journalism from University of Oklahoma with a minor in Political Science. She wanted to be a reporter and news anchor, but fear of public speaking and other insecurities held her back. Instead, Martha spent many years working in advertising, public relations and marketing; eventually leaving her career to raise two children and volunteering with numerous charities including the National Charity League. But she always wanted to return to her dream and pursue her goal of being a broadcaster reporter.

But while Martha was shy about her ambitions, Nellie was not.

An entertainer since the age of 14, Nellie is an accomplished actress, newsperson, writer and producer. Nellie grew up in Manhattan and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career; working in film and TV with directors like Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg alongside actors like Leo DuCaprio, Matt Damon, Brook Shields and Kate Blanchett. Beyond acting Nellie has written for HBO and Chelsea Handler produced her own one-person show and hosted for ABCNews, E! Entertainment and the Style Network.

Martha and Nellie became friends through their volunteer involvement at University Park Elementary School. And when Martha decided she was ready to conquer her fears and create a podcast show for women in the Park Cities, she knew exactly who she wanted for a co-host.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, hell, no! We are in the entertainment industry!

But the more you stumble and get back up, the stronger you become – more prepared for when you finally get to where you want to be.

For Martha, she struggled to move past her insecurities and fears of public speaking.

“I realized that I allowed my fears and insecurities to hold me back most of my adult life and I knew I wanted to be a better role model for my kids. I made up my mind that I was going to put myself out there and just go for it! I was a nervous wreck the weeks leading up to the launch of the podcast. I was very uncomfortable putting myself out there especially in front of women in my neighborhood. Let’s just say I was not pleasant to be around at home! “

And while Nellie was more than comfortable hosting a podcast show, she struggled in balancing the demands of her acting career with raising a child with a learning difference.

“I’ve seen it and heard it all while working in the entertainment industry. From stopping up Martin Scorsese’s personal toilet to being told I am worthless and of no consequence by a production assistant. But none of that compares to the ups and downs of raising a son with a learning disability. I am so proud of him and how he has grown and developed. He is my inspiration.”

Please tell us about The Bubble Lounge Podcast.
The Bubble Lounge is the only weekly podcast show created for women in the Park Cites, affectionally known as “The Bubble”. Each week, we discuss a variety of topics including events, things to see and do and interview influential residents in the neighborhood.

We are most proud of connecting our audience with new businesses in our community. Nothing makes us happier than hearing a restaurant owner started serving Peticolas beer in their restaurant because we interviewed them; or that a group of women went to a restaurant we recommended. That’s when we know we’re doing something right!

But what truly makes this show special and fun are the humorous stories and commentary we bring to every episode. We are very different types of women with very different points of view; which is why the show is so entertaining.

That’s why we have so many listeners worldwide, because our stories and views are relatable to so many women, regardless of where they live.
