Meet Carrie Hill of Annex Coworking in San Antonio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Hill.

Carrie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My background is in social work and counseling, so I love working with people. When I moved to San Antonio in April, I didn’t know a single person, but I knew I wanted to start a coworking space for women. I had worked out of The Collective in Edmond, Oklahoma and knew I wanted to replicate the experience in my new city. So, I joined every women’s group and went to every women’s event I could find, and started to make some friends. Once I found the perfect location for Annex, I got to work on it. I painted every surface, scoured the internet for the perfect furnishings, and was able to open the space on August 1, 2018.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road. The space itself came together exactly the way I imagined it, but building a community is taking a lot of time. I try to remember to celebrate the small victories along the way and focus on the positive direction we are going.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Annex Coworking story. Tell us more about the business.
Annex Coworking is a female-focused coworking community. We are a place for female business owners, remote workers, or side hustlers to work, have meetings, connect, and host events. I’m building a community of women who support one another in the trenches of business life.

During business hours, the large, open space is pretty quiet as women work on their laptops, meet with clients in the conference room, or shoot photos for their Instagram feed. In the evenings and weekends, the space is often rented out for events. We’ve hosted classes, business conferences, fundraisers, baby showers, pop up shops and a huge variety of workshops.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in luck, but I do believe that God works things out for good. I have been overjoyed to find the perfect location for Annex and to meet so many amazing women who have helped me begin to build a community.

Pricing:

  • Full-time membership $175/month
  • Part-time membership $100/month (5 hours per week)
  • Event space rental $150/event ($200 on Saturdays)
