Meet Chantelle Prejean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantelle Prejean.

Chantelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started in photography during my Freshman year of High School, and it took off from there. Though, my true passion for photography started with my love for music. So of course, I began taking photos at the concerts I went to. The local clubs in Houston (where I was at the time) didn’t have any strict rules on photography, so I was typically able to get my camera in. Once the desire for shooting bigger shows began, I started contacting music publicists as an independent photographer to obtain press credentials.

My biggest break and most exciting moment starting this out was being granted a photo pass to shoot the band Rise Against in 2012. 2012 was my biggest break into concert photography, and the official year I moved (permanently) to Dallas-Fort Worth. Today, I have been photographing concerts for nine years. I officially began my photography business around 2014/2015 and have developed a new passion for portraiture, weddings, and travel photography.

Outside of photography, I love animals of all kinds, so what better way to volunteer my time at the local animal shelter? I’ve been volunteering my photography at the Arlington Animal Shelter for about a year and a half now. We photograph the most urgent of the animals (mostly dogs) in hopes of showcasing their personalities through photography to increase adoption.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As I still consider myself in the early chapter of my photography life, it’s been both smooth and bumpy road, very similar to Dallas highways – at times its smooth sailing and at times a huge pothole sneaks up on you (more often than you want!). Marketing yourself is a constant challenge, but a never-ending learning experience and there’s always something to learn. I love photography because it’s an art form you’re never done learning.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m the owner and photographer at Chantelle Renee Photography. I officially started the business around 2015 and have been growing it since. I specialize in concert photography, weddings, and portraiture. Though I wouldn’t say I specialize in it, I absolutely love traveling and taking nature/landscape photos at any chance I get. I’ve been creating calendars every year showcasing all my favorite images.

In the grand scheme of things, I’m most proud of how far I’ve come as a photographer, and now business owner, in the past five years. The things I have learned, and continue to learn, have helped me create beautiful and exciting images that I’m happy to showcase.

Along with that, I’m proud that I don’t take the easy way out in creating images. If you want a light-painted sparkler image, you’re going to get the real deal (which is me running around in circles and zig-zags while the camera is counting down the seconds to close the shutter). The hard work is worth seeing the results, and something I’m proud to showcase.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I truly look at each shoot as it’s own theme, concept, and style. The location, the subject, the mood of the day all inspire them ultimate look of my images. Though I have my true color style of images, every shoot is so different and stands apart from the rest.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My ultimate plan for the future is to keep growing, learning, and shooting beautiful sites. One thing I’m excited to plan for more of is in studio photo shoots.
