Meet Chris White of Mr. Uncle Chris in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris White.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From a very young age, I loved to write. I use to write short stories, plays, and poems all the time, As time marched on and “adulting” became an inevitable rite of passage, my passion for writing faltered. That all changed two months ago when I started a blog Initially, my idea for the blog was to provide music and concert reviews.

However, due to the lack of quality music, I decided to add more interesting content to my blog. Therefore, I incorporated my take on politics, eatery reviews and a peek into my world which can be a mess at times. The thought was to keep things simple, comical, lighthearted but descriptive. Like a proud parent, I launched my blog and felt a sense of accomplishment, but it felt like something was missing.

The feeling of pride came crashing down swiftly, and I found myself paused in perplexity. Something inside of me was pushing me to be more personal as it related to my content.

In that moment, full of anxiety, I wrote a blog post that catapulted my website. The post would be titled “Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself.” Without restraint, I come out as being gay while detailing the struggles faced as a young male growing up with a “sin” I couldn’t escape. Now I was exposed, and everyone who wanted to know and had no clue was in on a secret I kept for years.

This post took a life of its own. I received an outpouring of love and support. Several people have asked to know more about my story, so they are better equipped to have healthy dialogues with many LGBTQ children/teens they encounter. The blog is continuing to attract readers not only in the U.S. but internationally as well. The response has been overwhelming, and writing has become cathartic.

More than anything I am proud that my content inspires change, sparks conversations, causes readers to see things from a different perspective. Most of all I’d like to think the site serves as a vehicle of camaraderie and validation that we all matter and despite your struggle, you are not alone.

Has it been a smooth road?
The only struggles I’ve faced with starting my blog is getting out of my own way. Once I learned to get out of my head and just do it, things became easy. I think at times, we tend to talk ourselves out of doing what we’re purposed to do out of fear. That fear can take on many faces, whether it be fear of failure, success, the unknown, or positive reception from our target audience. I’ve learned just to jump!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
