Meet Cindy McIntyre of CM Promotions in Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy McIntyre.

Cindy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I never dreamed of owning my own business and it kind of happened out of spite, to be honest. Before moving to Texas (Boston gal all the way here) my background was in real estate events. I worked for a company in Rockland, MA and planned all of their events nationwide. My first day on the job was getting on a flight to Houston, TX for a five-day seminar. Talk about jumping right in!

Fast forward several years and I was in Dallas for an event. My Uncle set me up on a blind date with one of his coworkers and to say we hit it off would be an understatement. Less than three months after our first date, I made the decision to move Texas, six months after that, here I am! I was so excited about being closer to Joe and starting our life together that I didn’t even think about the fact that I have no job, no friends and am basically starting from scratch. I went on too many interviews to count, I am talking hotels, wedding venues, corporate offices, anyone that would meet me pretty much. Everyone said the same thing, I wasn’t qualified. (& boy were they wrong) I decided to prove everyone wrong, I starting researching event and wedding planning companies formed my business with the state of Texas and enrolled in The American Association of Certified Wedding Planners.

That was three years ago and I look back at all those who turned me down and think it is their loss. I have planned over 50 weddings, have 50 more on the calendar for 2020 and 2021. I have grown from a one-woman show to a team of two lead planners and two assistants and am just getting going. Look out Dallas, I am coming for ya!

Has it been a smooth road?
Overall the journey has been wonderful. I love getting to know our couples throughout the planning process and helping to make the BIG day the best it can be. I have connected with so many vendors through the process and several have become close friends! Weddings truly are a team effort and having a kickass team makes all the difference. If anything has been a struggle it is keeping up with all aspects of the business side of things. The taxes (insert tears here) the profit and loss statements, all the marketing and the constantly changing social media platforms. I’ve had a few breakdowns over the years but always get back up, ice cream helps!! If there is one thing I have realized owning a business it’s that I will never stop learning, I wake up every morning determined to improve my business in some way, everyday isn’t perfect but I am making progress and that is all that matters.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with CM Promotions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a team of wedding planners who strive to help our couples make the process of planning a wedding fun! I am personally proud of the connections we have made with local venues and several industry vendors. We can use our previous experience, connections and industry knowledge to help couples in any stage of the planning process.

Our motto is all hands on deck and we want to be the type of planners who jump in when needed. Our services aren’t limited to cuing the procession and checking in with the DJ. We strive to go above and beyond for our couples, they have hired us to make the day easier and we want to be there for not only them but their wedding party and family. We are constantly hearing at the end of the wedding day that we were ‘lifesavers’ and ‘we couldn’t have done it without y’all.’ Those are my favorite moments and it makes all our work worthwhile.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I fell in love here, what isn’t to like! But in all seriousness, I love the community feel, the diversity and there is ALWAYS something going on. I’ve done yoga on the square, packed a cooler for live music on Thursday nights & am an avid community market shopper on Saturday mornings. Oh & did I mention I can take my dog with me for Sunday afternoon drinks. That doesn’t happen in Boston!
