Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Guilliod.
Danielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Makeup in a way got me out of dark place. Before I was doing makeup, I was playing soccer at the University of North Texas until I blew my knee out resulting in two knee surgeries, transferring to Stephen F Austin State University to play and deciding to end my soccer career basically as soon as I got there.
When I stopped playing I went through a sadness any athlete who has played their sport since they were young (four years old in my case) and decides to stop playing goes through. I felt as if, okay so I am not doing soccer any more so now what? Then started my obsession and interest in makeup. I have always loved all things aesthetics, and makeup was the top of the list.
I began to watch YouTube after YouTube, practice every look I could, I would go to the local MAC makeup store so much where I would come with all types of questions for the manager on techniques and how to’s that we eventually greeted each other with hugs. I looked forward to a new day to be able to do a new look. I found my new soccer, my new dedication, and it was makeup.
So I really did not start with makeup with wanting to be a makeup artist. It was until I was approached by a girl on campus to do their makeup for a graduation photo is when I really began to think hmmm maybe I can do other people. The first time I did makeup on someone else, I was so nervous, but she loved it!! Her reaction looking at the finished product was EVERYTHING! I was hooked I loved it!
After that, I began to really put myself out there as a makeup artist. I joined our FNM fashion group on campus as a makeup artist for the models where we would have makeup practices and really did as many faces as possible. That is when the beginning of my makeup artistry began.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all, Being an artist I struggle with feeling if I am good enough or if I feel like I should be on another level or not. I have to remind myself not to compare myself to others, and not be as hard on myself because I am naturally extremely competitive.
Another challenge is when I graduated deciding if this was something I was still going to pursue or just go to a 9-5. That was something I went back and forth with, but eventually, I knew this was something I was passionate about and pursuing my makeup career was something I had to do.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Joy Luxe Beauty – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Joy Luxe Beauty is my makeup business where I do freelance makeup. I specialize in neutral glam looks, I am most proud of the fact that my business is growing and growing right now and that is the best feeling ever. I really strive to meet every person’s individual needs when I work on them. Whether it be a wedding, birthday or night out I am most proud that I am able to make each client feel as beautiful as they truly are.
What sets me apart is the experience I am able to give my clients. There are so many amazing MUA in Dallas, and the great thing is this is an industry where everyone can win! But I really do focus on the entire experience from when they walk in the room to when they leave I want to make them feel comfortable and always leave satisfied.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is just really take my business to a whole other level from now! There is only up from here.
No big changes just yet, More just working on staying consistent with my brand and getting to work with as many people as possible in Dallas.
