Meet Demetris Elia of PEAKiropractic in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetris Elia.

Demetris, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from an island called Cyprus. I came to the US on a sports scholarship for hammer throwing (a track and field event) and to pursue a degree in Kinesiology. During my D1 college career, I had persistent low back pain and while talking to the athletic trainers, I found out that adjusting people was an actual profession and not just something you do to your teammates to feel better, as we did back in Cyprus.

I knew the benefits of being adjusted so I said I’ll try it out. The team’s chiropractor would visit the school once every two weeks for a couple of hours and would see about 50 athletes in that time. When it was my turn to get adjusted, I felt negative energy come through the door with the chiropractor. I felt a lot worse after my first adjustment from a professional. Knowing the benefits of the adjustment and the importance it had for my sports performance, I believed that nobody should ever experience such negativity from their chiropractor and as a result, not trust the art of chiropractic. That is why I decided to become one myself!

In my chiropractic career, I have worked in a couple of offices and it always seemed that people couldn’t find the time to take care of their bodies as they should. That is where the idea of PEAKiropractic was born. I strive to provide excellent chiropractic care at the patient’s house or office at a convenient time for them because time restraints should not be in the way of health! In actuality, if you don’t take care of your health now, you are burning time on the back end.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I started this practice at the beginning of March, right before COVID-19 caused a complete lockdown. Given the circumstances, I would say the road has been smooth but it is definitely a very slow process.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the PEAKiropractic story. Tell us more about the business.
It is a mobile chiropractic practice, so I meet my patients at their house or office. Because time constraints are a lot nowadays and a lot of other chiropractic offices are closed when people have actual free time, I am open to see patients Monday through Sunday from 8 am to 8 pm every day.

Precise, Effective, Alternative, Kiropractic hence the name PEAKiropractic. I believe that being mobile allows for the versatility needed to see the patients that cannot make it to an office during work hours, or that would just prefer to be treated at the comfort of their house, without compromising the quality of the treatment.

Having a background in functional neurology, functional medicine, and functional immunology I am able to look for other signs and causes of the experienced pain outside the musculoskeletal system. This helps me as a practitioner to have better and faster results with my patients.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been extremely lucky in life through my bad luck.

The short version: it’s funny how life puts you exactly where you need to be and not where you think you should be!

Even when circumstances are not ideal, never stop reaching for my goals.

Having three siblings studying in the UK made finances for my family tough. That is why I took the opportunity for a full scholarship at UTEP. I then ended up transferring to Troy University in Alabama where I graduated with a BSc. While in Troy, I met my good friend Alex who’s family lived in Dallas. It didn’t take much to convince me to move to Dallas for chiropractic school at Parker University. Right before I started school at Parker, Alex got a job in Tennessee and so I was left alone once again in Dallas. Soon after is when I met my wife and ended up happily calling Dallas my new home!
