Meet Dennis Walthers of Interactive Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Walthers.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My background is 25 years in corporate executive leadership in sales and marketing with technology companies in the consumer electronics space. While being very successful in the corporate environment I was always frustrated by the fact that most large companies are their own worst enemy! Most leadership tends to tries to impose control rather than empower employees to solve and learn from challenges.

My entrepreneurial spirit was always looking for creative ways to solve problems and brings smiles to the clients I worked with. After spending almost 3 million miles on American Airlines I decided it was time to challenge myself. While I had a technology background with extensive sales and marketing experience I did not have an event background.

However, as I have found many times in the past the best way to get the experience is to dive in and start making things happen. Be disruptive, different and unexpected. Good or bad, it will get you noticed.

My first activation we brought out was an interactive digital graffiti wall we called Air Graffiti Dallas. We loved it and so did the events we brought it to. We evolved the technology using it with a live artist to create digital art installations. We used it with photography to make it personal, We used it on other physical objects like automobiles to create amazing brand activations. Now in its 5th year and still amazing new fans every week!

I love to use it for brand activations and corporate events but it’s just as home at a wedding, mitzvah or birthday celebration.

We then added our activation called SloMo Lounge that features short videos of guests interacting with other and quirky props played in HD super slow motion.

Guests get their printed still shots and can email, text or share their video on social media. It’s amazing what happens in 5 seconds with you slow it down 8X.

Everything is funnier in slow motion.

The newest activation is our new Magic-Selfie-Mirror called Magic Mirror Dallas.

This is an amazing piece of technology that people gravitate to at live events.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our biggest challenges have been around how to explain what we do in a way that people can understand the experience. Video helps but it still not the Ah Ha! moment you get when someone experiences these activations at a live event. Once they see it they get it, we hear things like: “This is so cool” “I have never seen anything like this before” “It’s amazing”

We rely mostly on word of mouth as traditional advertising or things like AdWords are not very effective in generating new business.

We work with advertising agencies, brand activation agencies, marketing companies, event companies, and many individuals to create and customize interactive experiences that dazzle and delight.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Interactive Dallas – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are known for creating and customizing unique and innovative interactive experiences for live events, trade shows, parties, celebrations and much more…

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are working on new activations all the time. Some of the ideas come from clients that are looking for something very specific. We have to create effective, efficient, and affordable ways to create these activations in a way that can be repeated many times at live events. They have to be easy to setup, breakdown, and transport.

We are always looking at the live customer interaction experience to learn how we can improve on the experience. I learn from watching and listening then sharing ideas and gathering feedback on what to improve on.
