Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Taylor, LCSW-S.
Erica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After about eight years as a social worker, I saw a lot of barriers to individuals getting the help that they need. Whether it was cost or convenience people were not able to access quality counseling especially in the southern sector of Dallas with such limited resources. I started Taylormade to make counseling affordable and easily assessable. Individuals, couples, and families are able to meet with their counselor all from their smartphone or tablet via our HIPPA secure platform. We offer flexible appointment times including mornings and evenings and we have low-cost plans for out of pocket payers and we also accept some insurances. Most people are on their phones several hours a day anyway so they may as well be able to access the help they need there as well. Faith that you can overcome any obstacle. Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth as with starting any new business there is a learning curve. This is especially true because I am a clinical social worker and never really knew the ins and out of owning my own practice. The biggest challenge has been attacking the stigma that most people of color have against mental health. I’ve worked hard to educate individuals on the importance of mental health and how therapy does way more good than harm. There have also been some challenges with getting individuals to see the perks of being able to access a therapist via their tablet or smartphone and not necessarily have to go to a traditional office to get the same quality care.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Taylormade Child & Family Solutions story. Tell us more about it.
Taylormade Child & Family Solutions was founded in 2018. We provide individual, couples, and family counseling online. Individuals have access to a HIPPA compliant and secure platform and are able to speak with their therapist via their smartphone or tablet. Areas of expertise include Stress, Anxiety & Depression, Relationship challenges, Family conflict, self-esteem issues, Phases of life changes, and next steps. I use a variety of therapeutic tools and tailor treatment to the individual, couple, or family. I believe that change happens when people are given the insight they need to draw on their own strengths and realize their potential to live fulfilling, happy lives and get back to the “normal” that we all desire. We also offer clinical supervision to individuals seeking to obtain their clinical social work license.
I am most proud of the work that we do to meet each person where they are but leave them better than we found them. We pride ourselves for helping people find the hope to keep moving forward despite life’s challenges.
The fact that we offer to counsel online and people are able to access therapy from literally anywhere is what sets us apart. The challenges to making appointments between 8 am and 5 pm has been removed and quality counseling is available to all.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The online services industry will continue to grow by leaps and bounds over the next 5-10 years. Already within the last three years, we are able to see advances where we can do more and more online including traditional doctors visits. As technology continues to be the way the world is moving, I look to see the industry grow with therapy online being one of the leading ways individuals get help from the comfort of their own home.
