Meet Genae The Slay

Today we’d like to introduce you to hairstylist/ makeup artist, Genae Monroe.

With over 10+ years in the beauty industry. Genae has worked seamlessly in front and behind the scenes of high fashion photoshoots, music videos, runway shows, artist performances, and simple one on one services in the salon. She is a Dallas native, and has always aspired to be her own Boss!

In 2015, she graduated with her Bachelors of Science and Arts degree in Integrative Studies; studying Business, Communications, and Journalism at the University of North Texas. Quickly following graduation, she then attended Ogle Cosmetology School as a full-time student and part time M.A.C Cosmetics freelance makeup artist.

After finishing her licensing program at Ogle in March of 2017, she launched her new brand “Genae The Slay”, after picking up the nickname at a local fashion show where she “Slayed” 8 hairstyles for the RunWay that night! & she’s been “Slaying” ever since!

Genae looks forward to sharing more of her talents abundantly as she plans for future endeavors, such as; her new hair studio location, new product lines, partnerships and launching her brand new website, www.genaetheslay.com. So stay tuned!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There were certain obstacles along the way, financial issues are number one, following that, self-doubt, put-downs and let downs, impatience, long tiring days to nights, comparisons, uncertainty and much more I’m sure. But, with every negative that I overcame, the positives came profusely! I fought, I lost, I learned, I grew, I conquered, and the cycle still continues. Only difference is now, I embrace the entire cycle wholly, for I now know this is what it takes to be the best Me!

Genae The Slay – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Genae The Slay services range widely from healthy natural hair to extravagant extensions, high fashion to natural glam makeup, creative updos and more! I strongly believe that creativity is limitless, so I’m usually the person people will look towards to execute an out of the norm hairstyle!

My specialty is complete hair and makeup makeovers! After accumulating a decent hair client base, I began studying and practicing really hard at makeup. Constantly offering a complimentary full face after finishing a client’s hairstyle, my skills quickly grew.

From there, I perfected my skills at M.A.C Cosmetics and became very fond with visualizing and creating personalized hair and makeup looks for women. One is simply not complete without the other and I am most proud to be able to offer the complete look!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me can be summed up in three words; freedom, happiness, and giving. The freedom to live and work on my own terms is amazing! And of course being “financially free” is an ultimate goal. The happiness that comes with doing what you truly love and enjoy is priceless!

And lastly, giving in a multitude of ways whether it be the customer service that I give my clients or the inspiration that I give my followers who see me living out my dream, or having the means to give back to those who are less fortunate. That’s true fulfillment in what I define as Success!
