Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayme Lane.
Jayme, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. When I was a little girl, I found joy in creating artwork for people. I would draw in the woods all by myself for hours talking to birds, butterflies, and other animals. I found myself very connected and most comfortable with my sketch pad and colored pencils.
I was probably seven when this began. I also found in this quiet space that I was more connected to God in the stillness.
During my childhood, I also tormented my mother with aluminum foil, rags and paper bags. I would roll her hair up and do her make-up in a very experimental way.
My poor father never knew what he would see after coming home from his long days of work. I eventually became a Cosmetologist, Spa tech and Holistic Therapist. I did this for about 19 years., During this time, I also married and had two children. My first born, my son, at 2 1/2 got AML leukemia and had a 20 percent chance of recovery. This really was the catalyst for the start of all my holistic training,. I studied Ayurvedic Medicine with a focus on ,essential oil blends., Reiki & Pranic Healing came next.
What I soon discovered was that I needed the healing just as much as my son. A mother never wants to think she can’t help her child. I needed this to keep my focus positive and give me a place to divert my attention. I was pregnant with my next child while my son was going throughu chemotherapy.. My marriage was falling apart because of the stress of the illness.. I surrendered all my fear to God and trusted him. My son is now 23. He is my miracle child.
I quickly became a single mom of two, and my artwork was extra income on top of my three jobs.. I enjoyed doing my artwork most of all.. It was my meditation and sanity. While working one of my jobs I met retired Dr. Norman Rosenbaum who is now my dear friend and mentor. Norman, now 83, took me under his wing., I was working for a window company as a district manager. I went to his house to fix a window, and when I saw the amazing stone carved bears he did, I begged him to teach me.
I spent all the time I could at his house, learning to carve. I carved totem animals out of rocks for ten years and trained under some great artist such as Geronimo Marquez. After moving to Dallas three years ago, I became a Wardrobe Stylist at Anne Fontaine in Highland Park Village. I quickly realized I’m not in Kansas anymore! Lol! I mean, I’m not in New Hampshire and Maine anymore. Styles are much different here in Dallas. I took one year to observe this new environment before tackling my next business venture.
I realized living in an apartment was not going to accommodate me using an air hammer chisel and pounding rocks. I paired up with another artist, Nicole Chamberlain of Urbane Cole, and sold fashion purses I made and designed. During this time, I did the wardrobe styling for magazine editorial photo shoots with an amazing make-up artist, Francisca Harrison. I also got to work with photographers Amanda Williams and Chet Tucker. Now that I have gotten a good taste of Dallas, I am venturing out on my own to start Golden Silver Fox Fashion and Spiritual Boutique.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Space and time are always challenging.. I want to just sit down and create all the time., So balance is always the struggle. I have so many ideas in my head, and there is only one of me.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Golden Silver Fox – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I do wardrobe styling for editorial photo shoots and I create handmade Fashionable and Spiritual Purses, jewelry and Custom Blended Essential Oil products. I am proud of the fact that I create these things in a Spiritual way with respect and knowing that everything I do is because of God. He gave me this gift, and he leads me and guides me.
What sets me apart from others is my life experiences and seeing the world through my eyes. I do a lot of meditation for clear vision and inspiration. I pray and offer intentions before making each piece, asking for God’s guidance. Then I smudge each piece with ceremonial sage.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Lots of awesome changes. I’m going solo and including my spiritual side again, branching out into Fashion and as a Spiritual Boutique. I am excited to share with the world my personal oil blend regiments to help people on all levels. I also look forward to creating fashion items with rocks, crystals & animal totem symbols. I will be doing some collaborative work as well, bringing new spiritual designers’ and artists’ work onto my webpage.
