Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Rae Weinberg.
Jacqueline Rae, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began in makeup 8 years ago with my best friend Melissa Britt Rogers. She is a well-known MUA in Southwest Missouri and needed an assistant. I thought it was fun to work with my best friend and watch her dreams come true, but did not take it too seriously. Thinking back now I do not know why I didn’t take it seriously, we were featured on MTV, she was having her brides featured in magazines left and right, and was booked 2-3 weddings every Saturday for months ahead of time, but I just didn’t see it! A few years ago, I decided to move to Texas and assumed I was done with makeup. My grandmother decided I was not, and sent me to Ogle School for licensing in Aesthetics. I worked for Bobbi Brown and ULTA, and was blessed to be trained with Smashbox, Too Faced, Urban Decay, Benefit, Laura Gellar, and so many other amazing companies, but something just did not feel right. I was constantly feeling boxed in, like I needed to follow a strict plan, and to me makeup is an art, there is no plan. So, I worked in the Emergency Room at JPS, I had worked the ER in Missouri as well prior to moving here, and did weddings on the side. One day Melissa propositioned me again and told me I needed to go for it. So, I quit my job and have been working in DFW and SWMO doing makeup, selling LipSense, and spray tanning! It has been amazing and a dream come true! It just took 8 years for me to realize Melissa’s dream was actually mine as well! I finally saw it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road! I feel deep down I knew what I wanted, but being a single mom, I thought taking the plunge was impossible. You tend to believe you can no longer do what you want, because your baby needs you. So I shifted a lot aside for my daughter, and I would do it all over again, but in the long run I cheated both of us. I was living a life I did not enjoy and I was taking time from us. All because of fear. Fear will get you every time. People fall into the norm of society and you get scared to take the road less traveled, but I have a GREAT support system and they keep believing in me! My parents are saints, and I come to them with ideas and they always say go for it, I do not know how they keep the faith in me!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jacqueline Rae Makeup – what should we know?
My company is Jacqueline Rae MakeUp and I am a freelance MUA specializing in weddings. I enjoy dramatic makeup, but the classic natural looks are my favorite! I love bringing out the natural beauty in a woman and letting her features pop. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful at all moments, but the feeling of a bride trusting me on the most important day of their life is an honor! I am proud that I stay true to myself and my standards. I do not believe in trends, though I keep up with them. I know it’s important to be able to do it all, but to be able to keep a person truly beautiful without making them look like a different person, that is the art of makeup in my opinion. I think something that sets me apart from others is that I learned this from heart. I was trained by a dedicated person who loves and has a true passion for this field and that clung to me and was naturally instilled in me. I get excited for every single booking, I still text Melissa every time I am contacted. I get tears in my eyes every time I see that picture of a bride fully made up and in her gown, I truly appreciate my passion!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Appreciation by far! This is not a job! This is amazing! I appreciate Melissa for bringing me here, my parents for helping me stay, every client for trusting me on their day no matter the occasion! When you stop appreciating what you are blessed with, you lose the passion you were blessed with, and I don’t ever want to lose that!
