Today we’d like to introduce you to Janecia Venae.
Janecia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I created Pretty& Mink Co a few years ago. At first, when I started brainstorming about my business, I wasn’t as serious as I thought I was, but now she’s my bread and butter. Outside of my children and my future, my business is my future. Our future. I started my passion with makeup when my sister became an Esthetician and a Freelance MUA. She was like my sister by blood and in the make up industry. She was the one that put me on to the “make up life”. After that, I took off with it. Once I got the hang of creating my own perfect brow. I took off. I wanted to learn more and do more makeup.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
You know when Remy Ma said, “We took the pissy steps”, I felt all of that. It was a bumpy road at first. I’m not going to lie. I got discouraged, I stopped believing in myself and know my value and worth. I started stressing having to balance being a single mother and still striving to do something in life I actually LOVE doing. But the people that saw my passion and the love I have for makeup did nothing but push me to keep going. Now that I have been doing makeup and experiencing new paths, staying positive and remaining humble, it’s like it’s all coming together piece by piece.
Pretty&Mink Co. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Pretty& Mink Co is specializing in enhancing your beauty with makeup to build women’s self-esteem up times 10! I can speak for myself when I get my hair pressed and my face made up, I feel so good and I want to just embrace it. That’s how I want every client’s face I touch to feel like when they leave my chair. I’m taking it step by step because I have other ideas that’s coming soon to the brand, but as far as me, I’m proud that my business is not being looked over. I’m blessed to have clientele that was there when I started and even with the trials and stipulations, they remained loyal and helped me to build as well. I don’t compare myself to others. I do look upon some as help and guidance to becoming a better make up artist and business owner. I most definitely love how some of the MUAs I know ALL support one another!
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is self grind. Remaining focus, working hard, keeping the faith, excepting constructive criticism and enjoying when you see improvement and most of all loving what you do. Once you know your value success is around the corner. You truly have to work for it. It’s not given to you. My criteria is just to never give up on what you truly love. Look at for the things that you know will try to block your success. Open your ears and Open your mouth so you can be heard and still listen.
