Meet Jason Ley and Camden Brieden of Better Drinking Culture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Ley and Camden Brieden.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jason and Camden. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Better Drinking Culture was founded in 2015 by a group of friends sharing stories about their drinking experiences. We discovered these stories shared a common thread… Nearly every negative consequence related to alcohol was the result of drinking too much.

The big idea was that if we all choose to drink better (i.e. in moderation), and encourage our friends to do the same, our lives would be way better. No more hangovers, regrettable moments, or lost memories. We could do more, feel healthier, and live happier.

Today, BDC has grown into a global movement, with members repping the BDC as far away as Sweden and Fiji (in their favorite BDC t-shirt of course!). Our mission is to continue to grow the movement and launch educational resources and products for the consumer and industry that will impact the next generation of drinkers and change our drinking culture in a more positive and healthier direction.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In our first year and a half, we were in self-discovery mode. Because everything happened so organically, we focused a lot of our time learning people’s stories, desires, needs, and perspectives. Having discovered so many opportunities to impact lives and really change our drinking culture for the better, our biggest challenge has been prioritizing resources and focusing on those things that will build a foundation for long-term impact and real culture change.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Better Drinking Culture – what should we know?
We are a lifestyle brand that educates and empowers people to drink better and live healthier. We do this through a portfolio of impact-driven products that directly serves and benefits our tribe members, communities, the industry, and the next generation of drinkers. Most people know us through social media and by our signature BDC t-shirt. Right now, we’re super excited about our industry certification that recognizes the best alcohol establishments for contributing to building a better drinking culture in their community by putting the health and safety of their guests first, and the recent launch of our Universal Mug Club that are offered exclusively by our industry Certified Partners to our BDC members!

What makes us so unique? We’re just a group of ordinary people with an extraordinary vision. We are NOT some campaign created by the alcohol industry or university. We are the consumers of the product, a movement with real influence and power to change our drinking culture for the better.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Every single person who joined the BDC in its early stages deserves credit for igniting this movement. TJ, Lindsey, Lauren, Wes, Mike, Rachel, Selina, Amy, Ryan, John, Robb, Taylor, Jimmy, Amie, Ann, Adrian… Seriously too many names to list. This was a movement founded by friends who had a vision and desire to change our drinking culture in a healthier and more positive direction. And we raise our glass to each and every new person who decides to join us at our table and rep the BDC!
