Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Gil.
Jazmine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I got started with my plant-based journey because I was sick. I was having pains in my chest and nausea, vomiting, dry skin, and fertility problems. I was 24 at the time which in my mind I knew I needed to make changes within my diet because I was clearly very toxic from the food I was consuming.
I wound up getting rushed to the hospital with gallstones and was hospitalized for five days. That lead to two emergency surgeries and my gallbladder was removed. I knew then it was my diet. I began to research and found that gallstones come from not being able to digest animal products properly, and a buildup of cholesterol. I began doing research on a plant-based natural diet and discovered Dr. Sebi.
I luckily discovered him before he passed, and got myself on a detox through his herbs. I went completely cold turkey, cutting out meat and animal by-products. I was soon able to reverse all the previous symptoms I was experiencing, and the rest was history.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. But I can say it gets easier the longer you are plant-based. Starting out I was judged by pretty much my whole family who don’t understand the concept and think I’m on a diet. Lol.
It’s a lifestyle and definitely can be isolating at times when everyone around you eats meat, and you have to pack your own food at the family functions. But I’m used to it now.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Roots Kitchen story. Tell us more about the business.
My business is called The Roots Kitchen. It is a plant-based meal prep company, that does 100% plant-based, vegan meals, and mostly non-hybrid foods. I try to incorporate a lot of Dr. Sebis teachings into my cooking. There is no soy, and all pastas are made from chickpeas or quinoa. There is never any peanut oil or highly refined oils. I only use 100% grapeseed oil, and everything is made from scratch.
I think what sets me apart from most businesses similar to mine is I put my heart into everything I cook, down to every last ingredient. Everything is fresh and organic when possible. I am most proud of the clients that I have that come to me and said they have lost weight, gained energy, lowered cholesterol levels, high blood pressure levels, and generally feel so good when they eat plant-based. It makes me feel more aligned with my calling.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the plant-based/vegan scene is already BOOMING. Honestly, I can only see it getting better over time and vegan will be second nature to everyone. Hopefully, they will put more plant-based meals in schools and educate our children on the power of eating healthy.
