Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Johnson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jordan. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I started with my own workout journey three years ago while working on my Marketing degree at UTD. I gained a lot of muscle and weight during the first year and a half. This caused amazement and many questions from friends and family wanting to know how I achieved my muscular look. This prompted me to realize that even though I had no personal training experience and only worked out by myself, that maybe I could combine what I do for myself into a successful workout program.
I used information from my Marketing/Management and Sales classes to launch the business and to make it sustainable. I was able to immediately apply the information from the classroom into growing my business. It still took countless hours of marketing and posting for people to take my programs seriously as something that can help them get their bodies to where they need to be. Now, my programs speak for themselves a year and a half later. I have several clients who have provided me their before and after images.
In the beginning, I was getting asked to help train my friends and associates so often that I decided, ‘Why not”. Though I had no experience training others, I was confident my routines for how to workout would get results out of anybody. I knew I could do it and adjust as I learned. I started Personal Training full-time in November of last year, and now I have over 20 personal training clients. My clients are very happy and I have amazing results. It is something that I enjoy doing and enjoy seeing little progress made session by session.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it was not smooth for the first 5-6 months. I had struggles getting my online sales going and as an independent trainer I wasn’t always welcomed to train in every gym.
My online sales were only making a fraction of what they should have been making. My advertising was not finding the right people thus the sales were very low despite my low prices. I was even giving some programs away for free at that point just to get potential clients to try them. I knew that if I can get one person to take it seriously then I could use their before and after images for the next person. It was discouraging for those first 5-6 months. In February 2018, it started to pick up. I had a few who posted their transformations and others started wanting to try the programs as well.
The other challenge was finding a gym that I could use as a to base. I got kicked out of a lot of gyms for training inside the gyms. I eventually decided to move into an apartment complex in the downtown Dallas Trinity Groves area. I noted that they had the workout equipment I needed. After meeting with management, I was able to gain an agreement that I could train my clients in the facility.
Due to the move, I lost 3-4 clients. They couldn’t come to the location because of the distance. However, I increased my marketing and now I’m happy to say that I am able to fill my schedule with clients. I still have a few spots open, you interested?
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Controlled Fitness – what should we know?
I am a personal/online trainer. I specialize in wellness, strength, area specific training and body changes
I’m most proud of the fact that I can get massive changes out of anyone’s body in less than six weeks. I am so proud when I see the results of people using the programs that I sell.
I have received so many testimonials from clients sharing how much their body shape has improved. My clients have shared how they have: lost dress sizes, improved self-confidence, reduced/eliminated depression, regained their shapeliness and more. It’s a blessing to know that I serve a key role in helping people meet their goals.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents for instilling a work ethic in me. Hugo, my former work associate at Fry’s electronics Plano. He taught me to never settle that you’ve done enough, but keep going and learn different angles to sell your vision. I also learned how to take advantage of opportunities and to be humble about it. My friend Chris Polk and Chris Brown who won’t let me slack off! Also Velencia, for helping me get started with marketing on social media and teaching me a lot through it.
