Meet Jose Whitten of Set The Bar Marketing Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Whitten.

Jose, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I say a lot that I pretty much fell into my business by happenstance but the fact that I am the best at what I do makes me think otherwise. I have found my niche and have become very successful in doing so.

While I was in college studying Biology and Chemistry in the hopes of one day becoming a doctor, I had a girlfriend who was an actress and one day she calls me saying the male model called out and that she had shown my photo to the photographer and he loved my look. I told I had never anything like what she was wanting me to do before and I had an exam to study for in a couple days. She went to tell me how much I was going to be paid and I quickly changed my mind. From there I continued to do another modeling, acting, and promotional marketing jobs that helped me pay my way through junior college. After college, while studying for the MCAT and pursuing medicine and trying to survive as an adult I continued to work in the marketing field. By then I had been well seasoned and actually really good at it to where I was having companies call me directly and ask for my services and come out to such and such event to coordinate it their space for them. And now here I am. I have my own clients and small business and I represent some of the biggest and most successful brands in the world.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a long hard road to get where I am now and only because my networking style is different. I don’t really solicit myself to companies or people. I let my work speak for itself. I would not recommend that style of networking to others because it’s a long way to actually becoming successful but I will say that once I have made a client they have stayed my client because they know I am invested deeply in them and I will work tirelessly for their success.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Set The Bar Marketing Solutions story. Tell us more about the business.
On a very superficial level, we are an event management company. We place specialized staff and train them, coordinate and manage the event, event logistics, demographic research, and also consumer-facing. We specialize in high volume high impact high impression delivery. We do much more than that depending on our client’s needs. As a small business owner I am most proud of being able to offer competitive employee wages for the people who pour their hearts and souls into our business and clients and in turn, the scale of success we bring to our client’s brands being that we, not a big company.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The marketing industry is only going to exponentially grow. The fact is that not only businesses but people are realizing the importance of investing in a brand partner who can shine a light on a company and the R.O.I is well worth it. One huge trend coming is the experiential marketing side of it. There is something to be said when the consumer has a genuine face to face experience with a brand representative. Take some of the biggest companies in this country and look at how much they have invested in experiential marketing and you will notice a direct correlation with their success.
