Meet Juliana Oliveira of Beyond Interior Design in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Oliveira.

Juliana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I quit my full-time job to go back to school full time in 2007 and started taking small projects to build my portfolio. One project led to another and soon I found myself with a business opportunity in my hands. Today I have a team of 6 dedicated designers, design assistants on staff and over 100 projects in our books.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. Entrepreneurship is hard. No matter how much you prepare for owning a business, you will always make mistakes encounter unexpected hurdles and you have to roll with the punches. I had to overcome inexperience, finding the right people when getting ready to build a team, shady contractors, less than ideal clients and navigating the world of design (what’s new, now and exciting) all at the same time. Most recently, I encountered the most challenging of all challenges: becoming a first-time mom while running a growing business. It’s been hard but super rewarding! This challenge has actually made me the best version of myself ever, as a woman and as a boss.

Beyond Interior Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We do full-service interior design. Including remodels new construction, space planning, furnishing, and decor. We take on commercial and residential projects.

We specialize in modern and transitional design.

More recently we have launched edesign as well. Service Packages we sell to design your space virtually.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My new team! I’m so proud of the talent they share and the fact that they chose to work with me. I’m super proud of our current project in Inwood Park. A series of modern architecture spec houses we have been designing for Grand development.
