Meet Kathy Adams of Kathy Adams Interiors in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Adams.

Kathy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a passion for interior design, in particular, textiles. I started out as a seamstress, even teaching sewing classes as a newlywed with 3 small children at home. I use to design and sew all my own window coverings, and pretty soon, neighbors and friends began to hire me to do the same for them. Making window coverings soon became designing rooms, including furnishings, rugs, and lighting. In 1991, I opened my own boutique, “Kathy Adams Interiors” in a small 1250 square foot space in a shopping center. By then, I was traveling to France and England and importing antiques, even designing pieces manufactured using antique wood. I quickly outgrew the original space, so I decided to build my own building on Preston Road. Although the brand is much larger now, the seed that started it all is the same: to design elegant, but comfortable spaces.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been struggles along the way, a lot stemming from competing with larger, more “corporate” companies. They made growing the business harder. But, we offer something very unique, a personal touch; our clients are more like our family and very loyal.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
For more than 25 years, the creative designers at Kathy Adams Interiors have produced inspiring looks that set the standard for sophistication in Dallas homes. To have a Kathy Adams room is to have an iconic look that speaks to your lasting style and culture. We design beautiful rooms, it’s really that simple.

We have a staff of extremely talented interior designers that each bring years of experience to our team. Our office is a 23,000-square-foot showroom, located in the North Dallas/Plano area, where we display highly respected brands in furniture, as well as where our design process takes place. We work with the most desirable fabrics and sought-after brands to give each client a custom looking room that they won’t see anywhere else.

We love working with our clients to create interior spaces that look stylish and serve their needs. We truly get to know every client so that we can exceed their expectations and deliver rooms that they will be proud of.

Above all else, we are most proud of our brand’s ability to adapt and grow as the styles have evolved over the years. It is rare for an interior design business to see success for as long as we have and that is because our talented designers bring high-class, Dallas style to every room.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been very outgoing, and because I was an only child, friendships were very important to me. This is why, even to this day, I love talking to people that come into the store!
