Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerry-Ann Zamore Frazier.
Kerry-Ann, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been a character, an energetic, precocious, animated child who loved to entertain and create stories. The love for creating characters grew to writing short stories and original stage plays and films. Writing was my voice, it was my peace and it became my passion. My beginnings were in the church, then I continued to grow my craft writing plays in college and community theatre. After years traveling with the military worldwide practicing my craft in every state and country were assigned, I decided to open my own theatre company KZFrazier Drama.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to this point I have encountered mountains as well as valleys. I knew the writing and acting part of theatre, it was second nature to me. I had to learn the business part of production, which is very different from the creative part of the company. I made mistakes in the process; but those mistakes taught me what not to do and they helped me grow. It has been a wonderful ride and I look forward to even more mountains and hopefully with continued experience fewer valleys.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about KZFrazier Drama – what should we know?
KZFrazier Drama (KZFD), is a family-owned theater company based in Central Texas. I am a University Professor, clinician, motivational speaker, actress and owner, whose vision for the company is to Influence, Inspire, Educate and Empower the community using arts. I believe the arts is a tool which can be used to reach a population that lectures, sermons and conferences aren’t able to reach.
The company produces original stage plays as well as films written and directed by me. I believe the company is set apart from other companies because we address social issues to educate and empower in the form of stage play. As a clinician and educator, I bring everyday issues to life in a creative and tasteful manner; yet it is still hilariously entertaining. I am most proud that the KZFD still in its infancy have completed over 20 original stage plays selling out almost every audience. We have also completed two feature films; The Friend Request which explores domestic minor sex trafficking; Shattered Pieces, a domestic violence story, and two short films Running which explores mental health and Friend Request Long trailer, winning several awards at film festivals worldwide. I have also had the opportunity to serve as second unit director on award-winning films “In Utero” by Serenity Edward and Antonio Edward and “Scar” by Joy Lin. We are currently in production for several projects and always looking for new talent.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had wonderful mentors and motivators who inspire me. To name a few my parents are my number one, Dr. Tyrah Lindsey Warren, Rekesha Pittman, Connie Nichols Esq. and the awesome Team of KZFD Vic Hall, Antonio Edward, Chris Sanders, Roland Stewart, Tootie Hall, Toni Ringgold, and Winston German and all the actors who have come along side me over the years.
