Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Wert.
Kristin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
One day, I was sitting in my kitchen with a friend having a playdate. We were trying to figure out what to have for dinner. She thought of ordering a pizza or some sort of take out. I thought what do I have in my fridge? Without skipping a beat, I whipped up something for dinner. My friend told me that it was crazy that after a long day of work, and now a house full of kids, that I would even think of making dinner!
My love for quick and not-so-gourmet meals came to life in December 2017. I decided to start my very first blog, www.KristinsFixins.com. The overwhelming support from my close friends and family and new Facebook friends has been wonderful and keeps me positive about this blogging experience.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Cooking is the easy part! The blogging part and making videos is the most challenging. I have never blogged before, nor made videos.
Learning to film, create, and edit the videos has been a challenge. My cooking show is spontaneous and unscripted. Most of the time, I am inspired to shoot just before I get the kids. While the food is cooking in the oven, I go get them and finish up the video when we get home. My biggest challenges are managing my time, being camera ready, prepping, cooking and speaking eloquently. Maybe one day, I will be lucky and have someone prep for me, do my makeup and someone there yelling, “cut,” if I don’t make sense!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am different than chefs like Martha Stewart, Paula Deen and most of the chefs on the Food Network. For one, I am not a chef! I would love to cook like them but the main question is, “do I have the time or energy, or even the ingredients?”
I think parents can relate to me because I am just like every other parent. We are all exhausted from working and running the kids around to their after-school activities. The last thing you want to do is make dinner.
The key is time management. I have learned to get all of my grocery shopping done on the weekends, and to not complicate my meals. My meals are simple and have few ingredients. They are definitely not fancy and may not be plated very well but my meals are hot, and I know the kids will eat them!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
When I started this blog, I told my husband I was bored doing my business and I wanted a hobby. I have been a business owner for 18 years for a promotional products company called www.KlasProducts.com. My company is successful and I am lucky to have such a great team working for me. I was missing something though. I needed an outlet for just me. My husband said to, “go for it” and “do something that makes you happy.” So, I did.
The blog has been successful with more than 3000 followers on Facebook. My followers are so positive and it makes me so excited to write the next blog post for them. I am very lucky to have such a supportive husband and social followers. Thanks, everyone!
