Today we’d like to introduce you to Kylene Law.
Kylene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My first teaching job is when I was 5 years old. I taught private roller skating lessons to children and adults. I was in my element and I loved it. At 5 years old I had the intuitive skill set of someone three times my age. Sadly, years later we moved away and the opportunity to teach did so as well. Years later, in 2003 I was diagnosed with Degenerative disc disease. At every turn physicians were telling me that I had to live with the pain or take medication. I decided that neither of those suggestions were going to suit me. I started to research alternative therapies. Yoga popped up, of course I heard of it so I gave it a try. It helped, I liked it but I couldn’t see myself doing it on a consistent basis, I wasn’t in love with it. I remember reading an article on Pilates so I decided to find studios in my area and give it a try. I committed to 90 days of privates, within 5 sessions my body started to take to it, much of my pain had subsided. I continued and by the end of the 90 days, my pain was gone. I was hooked and in love. I believed in it so much that I decided to leave my career as an Aesthetician and immerse myself into the teacher training program the PhysicalMind. I was on my way to becoming a teacher.
I have been a full time instructor and studio owner ever since. I’ve been blessed to have owned two Pilates studios. I also worked at Equinox as their Pilates coordinator, running the Pilates department in Dallas in Highland Park (Dallas). In all my years in the Pilates community, I can say I’ve been happiest at my current studio, “Mindful Movement-a Pilates studio. In sharing my story in this piece, you will find out why.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest struggle has been being a small business. We don’t have the budget of the studios with 25 plus reformers. Our advertisement has been “our clients walking around as billboards” to show what we do and how awesome we are!
Please tell us about Mindful Movement-a Pilates Studio.
Mindful Movement-a Pilates Studio is dedicated to raising the standard of Pilates in Dallas. In our sessions, our clients receive tailored instruction geared to uncover hidden strengths and take control of chronic weaknesses. We are a boutique Pilates studio that focuses on service and relationships. Our clients come to us because they feel welcomed, nurtured and comfortable and perhaps most importantly recognized. Many of our clients come to us because we are their last option, they’ve tried other studios with no success. Our approach has restored faith that real Pilates does work. We teach the original work of Joseph Pilates and it works for all of our clients.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
