Meet Lisa Henry-Harper of Crow Beautiful Digital Media in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Henry-Harper.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The human story is dearly loved. I am a survivor of the bittersweet flavors of life and arrived in Dallas with nothing but the sweetest thing I know. My human story is a testimony of the healing power of connection. I’m a living testimony that entrepreneurship is a viable solution to escape poverty and will level up your ability to survive in the world. I heard the rooster crow beautiful and became a new creation.

I heard the rooster crow beautiful, and as I listened, I smelled the sweet aroma of hyssop, weave with my skin, imprinting favor and grace upon my soul. I heard the rooster crow beautiful and became a new creation. I am human-storyteller Lisa Henry Harper, founder and social-entrepreneur of Crow Beautiful Digital Media. Our company culture and company name are both rooted in Matthew’s account of Peter’s denial. “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me.” – Jesus

Mississippi red brick clay is where I come from. I was born magical in a magical city. Where I come from, I call my home city Jackson, however, the urban dictionary calls Jackson, Mississippi, JAFRICA. It wasn’t until I moved to Texas the name JAFRICA, LITTLE AFRICA, gave my Spirit life. The name was meant as a slap in the face. It’s a racial slur for “N” city. Google it.

However, living in my new city of Dallas has me appreciating the magic of melanin. I miss melanin being everywhere. Living in a melanin city, a magical city has its’ perks. Jackson, Mississippi is the second-largest African American (percentage) populated city in the United States, with Detroit as number one. So, the next Dallas, Texas “black” person that asks me, “Don’t they still hang people where you from?” My reply will be, “Yes, we have running water in every home and no, we don’t hang white people anymore.”

Jokes aside, being black in Texas is the same as being black in Mississippi. There will be people who will disrespect you for being black or a woman or transgender no matter where you reside. Seeing black people everywhere, I do miss my hometown. It’s where my love for what I do was cultivated. It’s where my passion for the art of being human began.

The art of being human is the heart-frequency of marketing and marketing is the sweetest part of business. It’s the sweetest thing I know and embrace. A story told with no words, no sound, or movement of voice is the highest form of human understanding and connection. I honor the art of being human as a storyteller, it holds the power of connection.

I’m a beloved freelance content creator and a content writer, but the hip new label for what I do is visual storytelling. I create and use various content, such as; graphic, written, video, and audio content to produce a beginning, a middle, and an ending to a story using all creative forms of content, then I digitally share human testimonies and the human story. There are three billion people connected by supercomputers in their pockets and storytellers control the narrative. My domain-expertise is building business-marketing systems and infrastructures through storytelling. I’ve been working in the field of marketing for over twenty years. When I began creating content, I was a legal-marketer for criminal defense attorneys in Mississippi and was using Macromedia products to create all forms of creative content. I’ve been in the game for a while. I had a front-row seat when Adobe, Inc. acquired Macromedia, Inc. Macromedia is the original creator of Flash, Fireworks, ColdFusion, Captivate, and Dreamweaver software. I earned what I know of marketing and the art of being human through daily practice in my industry.

Marketing is the sweetest thing I know. However, the journey to understanding the heart of storytelling and marketing was bittersweet. People will pass judgment on you and your life according to your ability to survive in the world. I didn’t become or transform into an effective marketer and storyteller until my heart experienced the bittersweet flavors of life. Finding a healthy balance between the bitter and the sweet was an emotional rollercoaster. Somehow, it’s easier to remember the bitter and not the sweet. Letting it go and finding balance was the hurdle I found hard to do.

The human connection of family is an important component of our ability to survive and how gracefully we survive in the world. Moving alone in a world that requires human connection bestows a level of wisdom that cannot be understood by studying books. When you move in the world alone, you gain an understanding of the things of the Spirit. I am a survivor of domestic violence and a survivor of human disconnection. The bittersweet flavors of life introduced me to grace, forgiveness, and the power of connection. Because of bittersweet experiences, I understand why the individual human story is dearly loved. It is part of why Crow Beautiful Digital Media is a social impact business that pours empathy and compassion into community and into the Spirit of a woman. Compassion and empathy are spiritual-cover for human disconnection. We offer covering and provide education to anyone living in the separation of self and family disconnection. There is supernatural power in storytelling and sharing human testimonies.

The human testimony is unique as a fingerprint, and sacred to the owner. It has the power to transform creation. The human story is so dearly loved that it covers and protects the broken-hearted, the spiritually impoverished, and many people living through hardship circumstances. Human stories create an emotional and empathy bond between people. Some of the greatest storytellers of the human story are the writers of the Gospels. Every human story has a unique testimony that is autonomous. Human stories do that. They free the spirit, heart, and soul.

I am a survivor of the bittersweet flavors of life and arrived in Dallas with nothing but the sweetest thing I know. My human story is a testimony of the power of human connection. I’m a living testimony that entrepreneurship is a viable solution to escape poverty and to level up your ability to survive in the world. The human story is dearly loved. Come as you are, take what you need. I have a story to tell you.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many struggles, but self-development and facing the truth so I could move business forward was the number one struggle. There is mental illness in my family tree. I was a care-taker as a child, through no fault of anyone. It is the cards life dealt us. My family is huge on higher learning. The immediate family that raised me were lawyers with schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. What reality was in other people’s home, was not the same reality in mine. I walked into my grandparent’s home many years ago, just to drop off something and I asked my first cousin, who was about five years old then, “Where is Grand-dad? This baby said, “He’s in the back talking to himself.” She said it so casual like it was traditional behavior for people. Her cavalier oblivious attitude shook me into reality. At that present moment, I saw myself. At that moment, I explained to her that it was not normal outside of this front door. Grand-dad was never violent, he was just being his beautiful self. I explained to her that he was being his authentic self, but most people would not understand that and that it was okay to be yourself as long as you are not hurting yourself or other people.

The real struggle came when I tried to scale my business. People are the REAL power of any business and traditional interpersonal skills I did not have. Traditional interaction I had to self-develop. How could I move my business forward without understanding how to connect with employees? I had to accept my family tree stigma, embrace it, self-evolve, and learn how to support and connect with people in a traditional way. Trust and believe changing your perception and view of interpersonal relationships is not easy in your personal or business life.

A business will not last without building character. Humility, compassion, gratitude, and respect are required to scale your business. Perception is a major component in effectively communicating with people. In my personal self-evolution, I found connecting with people beyond the written word is more effective. Language will never clearly define or communicate the things of the heart.
