Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynne McNelis.
Lynne, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been in the haircare industry my entire career. Growing up in hot and humid Louisiana, I learned from a young age that the right hair product can be pure magic. After graduating from LSU, I went to work for TIGI and focused on the Bed Head brand, where I developed a passion for product formulas, packaging and everything in between. I worked my way up to leading Global Innovation in the London headquarters, but I always knew my passion for hair would lead me to start my own business. Flash forward a few years, and voila! Fave4 was born.
I had the vision for fave4 in 2013 and just knew that I had to seize the moment. As a busy mother of three girls, I saw an opportunity in the market for affordable, high-quality hair care that is safe for the whole family to use. I wanted to make better, cleaner formulas, and I owed it to women to help them solve their hair dilemmas with affordable products that actually work! I took the knowledge from the years working with chemists and stylists at TIGI to make my vision come to life.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think any route to success is ever smooth. Challenges always present themselves sometimes big and sometimes small. Funny enough, the haircare industry is run by a lot of men (lots who don’t have hair!), and sometimes that can be challenging because we don’t always see eye-to-eye. Luckily, I have many influential women who guided me through the years, but my favorite mentor would always stress that “Rule breakers are rule-makers!” It’s ok to be guided by your feelings. Styling your hair every day is an experience, and you should embrace that experience loving the way your products look, feel, smell and work. If it doesn’t make you smile or it’s not fun to use, then why use it?
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fave4 story. Tell us more about the business.
