Meet Markisa Lasker of MaskOffPanel in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Markisa Lasker.

Markisa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am the CEO and Founder of MaskOffPanel Inc. I was born and raised in Conway, Arkansas and relocated to Arlington, Texas six years ago. I have a passion for helping people and networking. Within the past two years, I have been diagnosed with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The process of finding the appropriate doctor and receiving an accurate diagnosis was tedious. I kept getting passed around from doctor to doctor until I finally got the right medication and coping skills routines that work for me. It can be discouraging and make people want to give up when going through mental and emotional concerns and are unable to find resources. This experience made me determined to be the glue and help others find resources to help them maintain a healthy mental and emotional lifestyle.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth due to my own mental health issues. I wanted to give up so many times. I often ask myself how can I help someone else if I cannot help myself. I tell myself words of affirmation and remember Philippians 4;13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” I believe people can be their own worst enemy. I am learning to stop worrying about things I cannot control and focus on the now. I look at the positives things associated with having anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder. For instance, I like being organized and having structure so I use this to my advantage when planning for events and aligning resources for those in need. I also make sure that I am doing activities that make me happy and reaching out to my wonderful support system when needed. MaskOffPanel is growing daily and I am excited to see what will happen next.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
One reason I relocated to Arlington is because it is growing very fast and it is a city that represents diversity. In Arlington, you see all kinds of races, sizes and ages which to me represents the world! Everyone’s foundation is not the same and we all have different characteristics that make us all unique individual selves. A few things I like least about Arlington and all of Texas is the traffic, the roads and all the construction everywhere. I wish they would finish one project before starting another.
