Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Oyedokun II.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a native of Waco, TX where I was born and raised. I graduated from Waco High School in 1992 and played football at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. I graduated from SFA in 1997 with my Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. In December of 1997, I relocated to Austin, TX where I have been living since that time. I began my career working with Dell Computer and other organizations where I utilized my technology skills. In 2000, I began to branch out and support black-owned businesses in the area. I served as a board member for the Capital City African American Chamber of Commerce and I coordinated events to educate and empower black-owned businesses in the area and state.
In 2003, I accepted my call into ministry and I began to be more focused on community and youth. I worked to empower youth and the community through programs and efforts to promote excellence. In 2006, I was accepted into G.W. Truett Seminary at Baylor University where I went to school working on my Master’s degree until I graduated in May of 2011. I graduated with a Masters of Divinity in Theology. During this time, I was called as Senior Pastor of the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in 2008 and I also worked at Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation as a Salesforce Administrator/Developer until June of 2015. I am currently still serving as pastor of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
In 2015 I was accepted into Dallas Theological Seminary as a Doctorate of Ministry candidate. I have completed my coursework and currently, I am ABD (All But Dissertation). I will soon complete my Doctorate of Ministry with emphasis in Advanced Expository Preaching.
In 2016, I founded Doke Ministries, Inc. as a Non-Profit organization to continue my work in the community gearing toward empowering youth and adults to promote excellence. Doke Ministries, Inc. will function as a non-profit addressing the needs of the world through outreach and evangelism. Ministry is one of the most important forms of social responsibility in our world today. In its purest form, it’s a way to communicate with everyone about spiritual growth and most of all HOPE. Doke Ministries, Inc. has been designed to do this and more. Whether it be delivering sermons in several venues, empowering people through conferences, from sister churches to community events or simply providing a meal or means of support to those in need, Doke Ministries, Inc. sets out to encourage, educate, and empower its community and surrounding areas.
Community outreach, evangelism, and supporting other non-profit organizations is just a few ventures on the agenda of Doke Ministries, Inc. In an effort to spread hope and enhance community involvement to better shape the world, Doke Ministries, Inc. will offer such things as financial classes; teaching the everyday family how to budget their lifestyle, tutoring sessions, ministry development, leadership development, foreign mission, and much more.
Has it been a smooth road?
Anytime you are striving for excellence, there are always stumbling blocks. Whether it is finances, staff, partnerships or other hindrances, there are always challenges to the work. I have had many different difficulties in working toward our goals but God has always worked it out to where we have been able to complete the mission or vision that was in front of us.
Not everyone embraces or has the zeal for your vision as you do. Working to cast the vision to others in the way you perceive it is always a challenge. When you have that zeal, you must continue to press on no matter the obstacles that are presented.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have several businesses and community interests. I own Doke Enterprises, LLC where I design websites and other marketing materials for businesses and organizations. I founded Doke Ministries, Inc. as a Non-Profit to support the community at large with empowerment to excellence. I also own Doke Apparel where we design shirts and other clothing.
I am skilled in marketing, computers, preaching, teaching and motivation. God has blessed me with many skills that I utilize not just for personal gain but for the Kingdom of God. I want to be known for helping people and being thankful for what God has done for me.
What sets me apart is my desire to be great and to make a difference. I am thankful for my zeal and passion for the work.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The Dallas Area is a great place to live, work and do business. I have done much work in the Dallas area as well as go to school. I believe Dallas has the potential to make the State of Texas relevant in the United States of America.
